I am once again asking Swifties to understand that Taylor Swift songs and albums are not "about" anyone other than Taylor Swift and how she is thinking or feeling or reacting to any particular stimuli in her life. And that is more true than ever with this album.

I really promise that once you divorce yourself from the concept of "ew this song is about THIS person" and realize that it's all actually just about Taylor, your life will be so much more enjoyable. At the end of the day, the muse has nothing to do with the art.

having so many thoughts about the nature of storytelling right now. about how the story of a girl driven to insanity is more compelling and less palatable than a story of someone scorned and heartbroken. about how public perception of art bleeds into the life of the artist. about living for the record instead of recording about the life. about what makes a good album and how that intersects and conflicts with what makes a happy human. about the toll that takes on a woman who, at the end of the day, just wants to be heard and understood, but feels terrified to let anyone down with the truth. IDK YOU GUYS

the video from yesterday has me thinking about the differences in the midnights and tortured poets aesthetics. where midnights is celestial, "planets and the fates", stars, darkness, tortured poets is a starkly lit room, typewriters, examination of evidence, "lost the game of chance." it's like, maybe this wasn't fate, maybe it wasn't by design, maybe i wasn't in this position because the universe or the stars or destiny put me here. maybe instead of clinging to it because it seems like what's meant to be, i can look at what i really have, examine if things would be better if i left, look at the steps that got us here and the steps i'll need to take to get out. and maybe i have to do myself it, and i can't rely on any guiding force. but there's power in that, too, even though its a devastating blow to a belief system that we've seen in taylor's music since she was a teenager. realizing she can write him out the way she wrote him in.
