from your friendly neighborhood librarian:

all books are good books.  you are not a “lesser reader” if you only read manga or comic books or a “better reader” for reading academic heavy texts.

reading is reading no matter what it is, be it a graphic novel, a romance, a classic, an audiobook, a picture book, a cookbook, fanfiction, fucking whatever, read what makes you happy

reading is supposed to be fun and don’t let elitism sap any joy out of it

Trying to remind myself that im allowed to take painkillers even if the pain is "my fault".

A migraine is a result of, not a punishment for forgetting to eat - take the painkillers.

Back pain is a result of, not a punishment for poor posture - take the painkillers.

Sore joints are a result of, not a punishment for overexertion - take the painkillers.

Pain is not a punishment for a mistake. Painkillers are there to ease suffering. There is no glory in misery. There is no virtue in agony.

rip Mr Collins, you would have loved Patreon

Mr. Collins at the end of his Youtube videos: And of course, my most grateful salutations to my highest tier Patron, the honorable Lady Catherine de Bourgh, without which my humble videos would not be possible and my utmost thanks for the many invitations to galas at your luxurious estate this past year...

one really frustrating thing about being a chronic pain patient is you’re expected to be kind, patient, and never lose composure even if the medical professionals you’re interacting with aren’t doing the same. being in constant moderate to severe pain is irritating, it’s depressing, it affects your ability to think straight. it’s even more irritating when your pain isn’t taken seriously, when you’re out of medication, and so on. i was refused care and denied help at a pain clinic once for being rude to the receptionist who was being incredibly rude to me. one tech at my local pharmacy starts going off every time about how i can’t pick up my pain medication early when i’m just refilling other meds. i’ve been treated poorly at the ER for not controlling my volume well while sobbing from pain when speaking to the doctor. in the hospital after (neuro)surgery, i spent several hours with no pain medication getting exceedingly emotional because of it until the nurses stopped answering the call button and i had to bring people in to advocate for me until i was discharged. anyway. being an annoying or difficult or emotional patient shouldn’t mean you get bad medical care. and it’s not going to get better until we completely change everything about our medical system.
