Making a good TV show is inherently difficult, but making a good children’s show is another feat entirely. Not only do these shows need to be entertaining and compelling enough to warrant watching, but because they’re designed for younger, more impressionable audiences, they have to be created in a way that’s conscious of what they’re saying.
The new Deadpool 2 trailer is a raucously meta affair, with Wade Wilson calling out unfinished VFX, taking a jab at Henry Cavill’s digitally-erased mustache in Justice League, and going full Toy Story with a pair of Deadpool and Cable action figures. The trailer is a riot, filled with bullets and bombs and, well, more bullets. It’s gloriously over-the-top, just like the comics of the early ’90s that it is so endearingly pulling from.
Who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned murder mystery? No one, that’s who! And that’s why pop culture is packed with super sleuths ranging from the forensics geniuses of the CSI franchise to the protagonists of Sherlockand House M.D.. Even popular true crime podcasts like Serial and My Favorite Murder have capitalized on our grim love of whodunits. There’s one name, though, that goes at the top of the list of iconic detectives: Hercule Poirot.
As the Marvel movie-verse has expanded, the casts of every installment have totally hulked out. We’re way past the days when a solo hero movie would spotlight the titular do-gooder and call it a day. No, in a post-Avengersworld (and really a post Captain America: Civil War world), seemingly every single Marvel movie is an ensemble affair.
