Took me too long to learn this

Deal with your emotions when they’re small or you risk having a big blow up over something small and find yourself angrily eating french fries in a parking lot an hour from your house and confusing the fuck out of your dog(who is so concerned about you that he is refusing the french fries).

Something like this happened during the 1918 flu pandemic. Different cities issued different safety measures at different times. Obviously the cities that enforced social distancing sooner saw a flattened curve. However, once restrictions were eased because they saw the results of social distancing working most cities saw a second peak of flu deaths.

Right now we risk repeating the mistakes of the past. It’s not enough to flatten the curve, we have to maintain these social distancing measures for longer than we think. Easing restrictions now could cost thousands of lives.

I wanna say something about Pearls in Homeworld being called 'slaves' by fans which is: while not innacurate, I think it can often cause people to miss an important lens through which we are meant see them

Pearl's are objectified but they are objectified in a very specific way that relates to traditional femininity. Thus, is almost more reminiscent of a little girl being raised to serve and obey and please their husband and look good for him because that is her only purpose in life than anything that most american audiences would likely think if you say 'slave' (even if that word is not innacurate)

Which is also relevant to how Pearl rebels by doing traditionally masculine things like swordfight and build stuff.

And to how women (especially in pre-modern times) are often given the idea that their lives are meant to completely revolve arround a relationship and that idea is hard to work past even after you have supposedly rejected traditional roles.

Tl:DR there is something very gendered about Pearls

This is also exhibited in how different Pearls lay claim to their personhood; CG Pearl practises traditionally masculine skills like combat and building things (though she still enjoys "pearl" things like organising and dance, obviously), but Yellow Pearl loves to model; taking something from her role as a Pearl (being decorative and beautiful) and finding agency through performing it on her own terms, in a setting where all the attention is on her and not on a gem that she serves.

This parallels to how different women can find agency through either embracing traditionally feminine things but performing them on their own terms and placing value on roles that were traditionally seen as inferior, or by embracing traditionally masculine things that were historically barred from women.

A fantastic addition to this post thank you
