Loving comics doesn't mean ignoring their problems

@comicbookmisogyny / comicbookmisogyny.tumblr.com

This is a space for nerds and feminists who are tired of sexism in comic books and the community surrounding them and the mansplaining that accompanies it. Recently, I've expanded to talking about other aspects of Nerd Culture like Video Games. Share your stories, experiences. Before you ask: Yes I am MORE than aware that there are companies other than the Big 2.

Why hasn't Marvel announced a director for Captain Marvel? They've announced every director for all of the phase 3 films except Captain Marvel. Doesn't seem like they're all that ambitious about that movie, which is a damn shame.

We’re literally getting one piece of major news a year for this movie….last year they announced that it was being written, and then this year the captain marvel casting was announced. They move so quickly with the other movies but have been suspiciously sluggish with Captain Marvel. Methinks they’re going to push the date again, especially with the news that they got the rights to Namor back. They’re not taking this movie seriously at all and it’s very frustrating that no one will call them out on it.

When fans imagined who might play the title role in Marvel’s forthcoming Netflix series Iron Fist, they had some fresh ideas. While Iron Fist is white in the comics, many fans hoped the superhero, a master of martial arts, would be played by an Asian-American actor. On Thursday, those hopes were dashed when it was reported Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones got the job.

If DC retcons Harley finally divorcing herself from Joker as her own character, I won’t stop ever shut up, the whole world will hear me fight about this until I die. You don’t go from a woman finally getting the upper-hand against her sometimes abuser to putting them back again willy-nilly. Continuity may forget, but readers won’t. “Remove the thorn, but remains the scar.”

So Ike Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment, who is the same guy who said he didn’t want to make superhero movies about women, just gave a million dollars to Donald Trump.

Here’s what I have to say about why that means he is completely unsuitable to head up anything involving Marvel and why it’s antithetical to everything Marvel stands for:

do you know if there are blogs dedicated to badly drawn women in comics ? if there aren't i am definitely going to start one, i already hoarded a url

I know that there is eschergirls but there could always be more! Women in comics are always drawn in such ludicrous ways.

I’m seeing a thinkpiece on why Jessica Jones will beat Supergirl and, like…

*Grabs Megaphone*

Women are not subject to the rules of Highlander! There can be more than one female-led superhero show! They can serve different demographics and interests! Stop pitting all women against each other in some sick, subtly sexist Battle Royale!

*puts down Megaphone* … *picks up Megaphone*

Did anyone lose a Megaphone? I found this one and it has the name Brittany on it but I’m not Brittany, so like…

this is so ridiculous Supergirl is doing really well and Jessica Jones is an online show one is not affecting the other in any way WHY TF IS THIS AN ARTICLE SUPERGIRL ISN'T GETTING CANCELLED

Dear Marvel,

Please put Jeremy Renner in the trash where he belongs. We love Hawkeye though, so here are some continuity suggestions for MCU:

  • an actual hawk
  • a taxidermy hawk sewn onto the shoulder of Natasha’s uniform
  • Tony Hawk(eye)
  • Armie Hammer in an Aunt Viv #1 / Aunt Viv #2 situation where we all pretend they are the same
  • Kate Bishop

Thank you for your time.

Renner is an utter piece of shit.

MTV: Being in league with a superhero, though, usually leads to a whole lot of dude-or-damsal in distress situations. Is it the same with Jimmy and Kara, and if so, what’s it like having tiny Melissa carry you around to save the day?

Mehcad BrooksThere’s been a couple times where I’ve been the dude in distress, so I’m all good with that. Women have been quote-unquote superheroes in our society for years - my mother is a superhero to me, my grandmother as well, and I think that we’re just getting to a place in our society where we’re actually recognizing their contribution in the way that it should be.So I’m happy to be a part of that, I’m happy to be the dude in distress.

My mom saved my ass more times than I can count; my grandma saved my ass more times than I can count. If it wasn’t for the powerful women in my life, I would not be where I’m at. All men have been that dude in distress, and we’re just too prideful to admit it. But women have come to our aid, whether it’s a girlfriend, a wife, a mother, a sister, a best friend. I don’t know a man who could say he’s at where he’s at without a woman. So I’m okay with that. Go ahead and carry me through the fire Melissa, go ahead girl!

If you thought Lana Del Ray could act do you think she'd make a good Poison Ivy?

I’m gonna say no but only because I don’t actually like Lana Del Rey even a little bit

From the press release:

Following our hero’s debut adventure in this summer’s “Ant-Man,” Scott Lang will return alongside Hope Van Dyne on July 6, 2018 with Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” The sequel will mark the first Marvel Studios film named after its heroine. Additionally, Ant-Man’s second adventure will lead to a couple of other films shifting their dates, with Marvel’s “Black Panther” moving up to February 16, 2018 and Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” landing on March 8, 2019. Finally, three untitled Marvel Studios films will premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020.

Oh my god I love Wasp (even though its not Janet obviously, BOO) but could they STOP pushing back Carol and T'Challa's movies? Wonder why they keep pushing back Carol and T'Challa's movies.... OH WAIT I know why
