It’s Called an Arrow

She quirks an eyebrow and shrugs. “I wouldn’t mind having some of that Vulcan physiology,” She notes, getting a scan of the arrow wound. She always found Vulcans fascinating from a medical standpoint. How they can appear so similar to humans and yet be so different biologically. But an arrow wound is just as dangerous in a Vulcan’s body, perhaps even more so given their low blood pressure.

“Lucky for you, Commander, it appears to be a very primitive arrow,” She says, checking her scans. “It’s not serrated, and it’s a bullet head.” She explains, then mutters a request to the nurse, who runs off. She takes this moment to look around and notices a small audience trying very hard not to be noticed,

Well, she supposes arrow wounds would be out of place here.

“I’m going to numb you leg, sir,” She explains. “Or really, just your thigh. Then we’re going to enlarge the wound so the arrow doesn’t nick any major blood vessels on its way out. You’ll be awake through the process, so I advise that you not look down.”

“I will be grateful for the numbing agent,” Spock said as the doctor prepared the hypospray. His gaze traveled toward the flock of observers, and he arched a brow at them. “Are you off duty?” It was an unsubtle reminder that he was not a lab rat to be watched—not that he had any control over the medical personnel that might be watching—and he couldn’t think of a reason for them not to.

As they worked, he began to focus his thoughts on his body, ignoring his surroundings. He could hear the rapid beat of his heart and the pace of his respirations. He shut off the sounds of the machines and voices around him, and began to pull his awareness away from the pain in his leg. He shut off the nerves, blocking the radiating pain or as much of it as he was capable of blocking.

“I am ready.” It was a strange sensation when the medication met his Vulcan control. He closed his eyes, adjusting his efforts to make the two factors work together instead of against each other. The lack of pain was nearly immediate, and he caught himself before he could make a grateful sigh. “I would prefer to watch.”

“Oh? Alright then. Fair warning, it gets a little,” She waves her hand, trying to find a professional word. “Icky,” She decides, smiling. She’s worked with and on Vulcans before. Some wanted to watch, most didn’t. But enough wanted it that Sylvia isn’t all that surprised anymore.

She rubs a sanitizing mixture around the wound, then pulls an exoscalpel off her little tray of tools. “Alright, sir, I’m just going to make a small incision to widen the wound, use clamps to keep it open, then pull out the arrow.” She explains. The tip of the scalpel glows red as it warms up.

“So, what caused today’s liberal reading of the prime directive?” She teases. “It was a class L planet right? You were down there to observe. How did observing turn into getting an arrow to the thigh?”

“What they blazes did he DO?” Bones was staring at sylvia in equal parts concern and fear.

She clears her throat, avoiding the question. “Something a man should never do to a lady,” He slapped her ass, but like hell she’s gonna tell her BOSS that. “You know he’s not even that hurt. It’s just a broken nose and a, uh, groin injury.”

❛ ever wonder how different your life would be if that one thing never happened? ❜

Jim’s smile is faint and bitter. “More than I’d like to admit, Doc.”

They’re in the bar, and she’s had one too many vanilla margaritas, and she’s had a bad day. She holds her head in her hands and sighs. “On a scale of 1 to ‘You’re fired’, how okay are you with me dumping my feelings?”

Avatar

She’s amused, even though her captain feels quite the opposite. “The scanner already picked up most of what I need to know, Cap.” Her lips quirk, just a bit. She’s probably enjoying this. “Just need to know if you’ve been feeling any dizziness and nausea since your last beam up.”

Image

“Nope.  No dizziness.  Maybe a little drowsy, but that’s really nothing unusual.  As far as nausea?”  Kirk pursed his lips as he thought.  “I felt a little.. odd when I woke up this morning, but I wouldn’t call it nausea.  The feeling went away when I ate.”

Image

She made a note of the drowsiness and the nausea and stood up. “I’ll be back in a few minutes with the results, so just hold tight.”  It took only half an hour to get the test back, and when she looked over the data, she made a noise so sudden it scared an ensign. After a brief moment of readjustment, she walked back into the Captain’s room and put a small cup in front of him.

“I’m gonna need you to pee in the cup for me.” She says with a practiced professionalism that she was thanking every deity for.

the real question is are spock and bones a constantly bickering old married couple, or bitter exes dealing with unresolved sexual tension while trying to co-parent kirk

It’s Called an Arrow

She had been put on call for this mission. ‘Had’ being the keyword here. After an especially grueling twelve hour shift healing and monitoring an engineer’s third degree burns, her superior had thought she’d earned an hour out of Med Bay. Really, with all the tech she had on hand, most of her time was spent making sure the engineer was okay mentally. Kid took everything like a champ though.

Sylvia had barely stepped out of the Bay, coffee in hand, before it was a bustle of motion all over again. First, she thought the engineer had flat-lined, but when her eyes followed a frantic nurse, she almost thought she was back on some backwater colony.

She mournfully placed her coffee on the help desk before rushing over, steadying her commanding officer and ushering him to a bed. A nurse, young, new, nervous, went for the arrow, but Sylvia gently pushed her hand away.

“Commander,” She greeted calmly, then looked back at the nurse, handing here a sterile pressure pad. “Apply it directly on the wound alright?” She asked gently before bending down to assess the damage. She chuckles to herself. “Been a while since I had to fix an arrow wound.”

Years of training taught Spock how to shut off the pain receptors in his brain, and although he was not writhing in agony, he was still limping—but then the arrow had pierced his thigh at an angle that made walking difficult. He glanced down at his feet where his mud covered boots and soaking wet uniform were leaving a trail of muck on Mad Bay’s deck. McCoy would be furious. It was almost a shame he was not on duty to receive him.

Training or not, he grit his teeth as he felt the muscle tear and a fresh bout of blood added to his discomfort as he got onto the biobed. His dark eyes latched onto the doctor. He had not been treated by her before. It would be strange to be in hands other than McCoy’s or M’Benga’s, but he was prepared to put his trust in Starfleet Medical—not that he would ever admit that to McCoy. Where would the fun be in that?

“Then I am fortunate that you have treated one in the past, Doctor,” he said as he watched the nurse apply pressure to the wound. His rapidly beating heat and very low blood pressure were normal for a Vulcan, as was his body temperature which was lower than a human’s. He wondered if he’d face insult for those differences with her. “It is my hope that you can remove it without me needing to go into a healing trance.”

She quirks an eyebrow and shrugs. “I wouldn’t mind having some of that Vulcan physiology,” She notes, getting a scan of the arrow wound. “The last test ended up inconclusive,” She said, rolling her chair over, data pad in hand. “Boss wants me to be thorough. Before we get to the main event, I just wanna ask you some questions. Is that alright?”

Image

Head dropping backwards in exasperation, Kirk managed to keep himself from groaning.  His frustrations, of course, were directed more towards the inconclusive blood test than needing to answer some questions.  “Yeah, sure.  Shoot.”

injury/torture starter sentences

“One more word and I’ll break your other arm too.” “I know it hurts, but you’re not alone. I’m here for you.” “Will you please tell me who did this to you?” “Something happened to you while you were gone and if you don’t start talking about it you will only sink further and further into this darkness.” “I know what leaves those scars. I’m sorry. Nobody should have to go through that torture.” “Which do you prefer? Your tongue or your eyes?” “My whole life I’ve been searching for someone willing to endure my torture… Evidently I got impatient.” “You have something I want. Give it to me and I will let you go. It’s that simple.” “Why I’m doing this to you? There is no why… I just like it.” “Don’t cry, darling, I’m still your best friend. This doesn’t change anything.” “Please don’t panic, it’s just a small knife.” “Shut up– SHUT UP! I can’t think with all your screaming!” “You’re dying. Oh my god, you’re dying! That wasn’t supposed to happen!” “If you don’t tell me what’s been happening to you, you leave me no choice but to leave you.” “Why won’t you talk to me about what happened? You’ve had the same blank look in your eyes for weeks.” “Where did that scar come from? You didn’t have that before the holiday, did you?” “I want you to take this knife and make a nice, long cut in your own skin.” “Beg for your life, if you want it. I will spare you if your pleads satisfy me.” “I don’t know whether I’m going to kill you or not. You think I have that much self-control? Ha! You’re cute.” “Tell me what you know and the pain will stop, I promise.”
