New XKit and the new Tumblr dashboard
Hi everyone! Some of you may be aware that Tumblr has been offering a beta of the new web interface for a little while now. This new web experience comes with some nice perks, such as color palettes, soft refreshing, a built-in tag viewer, and a better user blocking system. It’s also much more accessible for those with reading difficulties, and should be fully compatible with screen readers.
Unfortunately, such drastic improvements has come at a price for those that truly rely on XKit features - the new web interface is entirely new, written from the ground up, and thus, XKit doesn’t work on it.
Recently, we’ve become aware that some people have been forcibly opted into this beta with no option to exit it, and this lines up with the projection that this new web interface will be fully launched by April 2020. However, we do not expect to be able to fully update XKit for this new dashboard before its full launch.
“Oh no! Tumblr’s trying to kill XKit!”
You would be amazed at what’s actually happening. A few Tumblr engineers are working with us and are building things into the new dashboard specifically to make our jobs easier! So please, rest assured that XKit being broken currently is not part of some grand scheme to make the Tumblr dashboard unmodifiable - we just need more time to catch up, and we’re being helped along.
“But I can’t use Tumblr without XKit!”
This is a problem we see echoed a lot. While we will be updating XKit to work on the new dashboard, we can’t give anyone a timescale. So, in the meantime, we ask that you learn to use the new dashboard with all its new features, and give clear, constructive, and respectful feedback to Tumblr support.
Tumblr has already implemented some equivalents of existing XKit features, and we’re already expecting more to appear down the line. If you can successfully communicate why certain XKit features are invaluable to your usage of Tumblr, we may see that list grow.
This is not the end for XKit - merely a stage of metamorphosis. Thank you all for your patience!

Due to user feedback, Tumblr is now allowing XKit users to opt out of the beta dashboard from their Dashboard Settings, giving us all more time until the full switchover.

probs an unpopular opinion but uhhh i miss gif chats in rps they were so quick and easy and fun and not NEARLY as stressful as trying to para w every single person on the dash yk????? also it made the dash move sm faster and it was sm easier to get a feel for how ur charas would interact and was waaaay less overwhelming and basically we should go back to gif chats thanks for coming to my ted talk

i want to start this off by saying this is NOT just up to the admins to take care of, and i actually hate the idea that admins will SPECIFY that in order to receive anons you should send some out and its still ignored.
tldr for what im about to say: yall fucking SUCK at honesty hours/ honesty days
the last four BIG group rps i’ve been in have had honesty hours / honesty days. this is SO much fun and so amazing, and it can create such a laugh, or character development, or even just a lightness to the rp!! i highly encourage and adore honesty hours / honesty days!!
in all four of these rps, the majority of anons i’ve see on the dash have been… from myself. i’m not tooting my own horn or anything, but no joke- i hate anybody feeling excluded and will go onto so many different accounts, and spam out to AS MANY PEOPLE AS I CAN questions, because i think everybody else will do the same. maybe i have high standards. but how fucking disheartening and just SAD is it to see, that everyone seems to be putting up links, begging for questions, and the only anons / qs i see are ones I’VE SENT OUT because nobody else is sending anybody questions.
to put it plainly, y’all are fucking selfish when it comes to honesty hours and honesty days. you will put up your own links, and then just la de da, skip off into the sunset and expect your box to be filled, but not send anything to anyone, or send two qs out to your friends or a muse you find hot.
this is AWFUL. it makes me SO FUCKING MAD.
now i totally get that real lives can get in the way, or being mobile can be really hard to see whos posting what, and when… but if YOU ARE PUTTING UP A LINK, ASKING FOR ANONS, THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS SEND AT LEAST YOUR HOURLY LIMIT OF TEN ASKS OUT IN RETURN. thats all!! i’m not saying you need to spam out accounts like i do, or wait until the hour refreshes and then go again. i’m just saying, we all in the rpc need to get better at this. we need to send out things instead of just asking for things all the time. it is NOT the admins job to remind us to give out questions in order to receive some. we are not in kindegarten and learning how to share. do NOT put up a link to ur inbox if u are not willing / able to send anything in return!!
I KNOW YOU MAY ASK- but g, its so hard to think of qs! or- this person only just joined the rp! i don’t know anything about them, so what on earth would i send them? YOU ARE RIGHT TO ASK THESE QUESTIONS!!! coming up with questions can be so hard. not every one of them needs to be super serious and character hitting. you can send something dumb like ‘what are your five fave songs at the moment?’, or if you REALLY can’t think of anything, i highly recommend just looking over HERE. there are so many questions. you can literally just copy and paste any q from that tag, and send them to people. IT’S THAT EASY!!!
if you want qs, send some out. i’m sick of being the only one actually sending qs out in group rps, and i’m sure many others feel the same way about group rps THEY’RE in. i’m sick of spamming and spamming, and coming back to my inbox to one question in return. y’all will happily and greedily take anything you can, but you won’t ever return the favour, and this needs to change. the rpc has a lot of problems and issues, but i’m hoping this is at least ONE (1) we can actually work on solving without too much discourse.
Y’all really trying to turn the GRPC into a Riverdale FCs playing ground, huh?

I’m only going to answer this once, but this is not an original idea. People have been writing in multiple verses, over the course of time since roleplaying began. The glee rpc didn’t invent this idea, and we are presenting it in our own way.
If you are concerned that the concept behind this roleplay isn’t ‘the original version’, then neither are ask roleplays, redo roleplays, multiple roleplays, next gen roleplays, or any other variation of roleplay that you currently see in the tags.
A concept cannot be stolen, when it’s something as simple as ‘switching AUs over the course of time’, but if you see plagiarized work, stolen graphics, specific plot devices or biographies anywhere on this page and then feel free to point this out, but that’s not something you will find here.
And if you think the GRPC rules are strict, you should take your ass over to oc rping. Shit just as strict, if not stricter.

Why is no one talking about micromanaging admins? It’s ridiculous the amount of rules some rps have; dictating the types and sizes of gifs players are allowed to use, the FCs players are allowed to use, not allowing players to use mobile, etc.. The GRPC is small enough right now, we can’t really afford rude and micromanaging admins…
Because they aren’t micromanaging anything. You just are clearly upset that you can’t skate your way through a roleplay doing one, some or all of these things. What are you going to complain about next? Having to cut the posts?

This new wave of banning Cory as a faceclaim out of respect has really turned me off of the grpc. I’ve been a Finn rper since 2010, and Cory just IS Finn for me. Exploring that character with Cory as a faceclaim has done wonders to help me cope and help me honour the wonderfully iconic and expressive man that Cory was.
It’s not a new wave. People have been banning him as the Finn FC since the day after his death. Just like people have continued to use Cory out of respect for him since the day of his death.
