I think ever since Christine had an athlete eligible for British team assignments, she’s lost everything that I loved about her as a commentator. British girls do no wrong even when crunched in slow mo. Anything America related is atrocious. Being powerful is a crime. Stop.

100% agreed.  She has grown increasingly annoying when she used to be one of my favorite commentators.

She used to be a good commentator because she was reasonably unbiased and evaluated gymnasts’ performances more or less fairly. That has completely gone out of the window, unfortunately. Now I just try and watch a feed that has no commentary at all.

When I first started watching gymnastics it was so easy haha. I didn’t really know what was going on, so I couldn’t be that easily annoyed. Now it’s horrible, I can’t find any commentator that doesn’t piss me off (including the Romanian one). I still think Shannon Miller did great in London though, can’t she do that again for Rio?

I never really liked her as a commentator (bring back Mitch Fenner), but yes, her blatant bias is awful now.

Thing is, it’s not just her, it’s the entire British commentary team. So I think it’s a directive they’ve been given from on high, now that GB is doing better in the sport. I think London changed everything. The commentary team of Christine-Matt-Craig-Beth is just horrible:

- extreme bias, where they just blatantly ignore major form errors from the Brits, even in slow mo, but happily pick apart others’ routines.

- the fact that commentary goes out the window when British gymnasts are up, being replaced with ‘C’mon!’ and ‘Yes!’ and ‘You can do it!’ They basically turn into Alan Partridge (for a 100% accurate representation of their commentary on the Brits, see 0:17 of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhlx43rTs2Q)

- general squealiness, especially from Matt. He began life as a children’s TV presenter and that is definitely his natural level.

- incredibly droning statements of the obvious from Beth, at great length, all the time. My heart sinks whenever they ask her something. Oh god please stop.

Individually, they’re not great commentators. Together, they’re a hot mess. During Euros this weekend I found myself pressing the mute button to shut them up, and it’s such a shame that I’ll probably be doing that during Rio too (especially for Beth).

IAG 2016 | Sanne Wevers scores 15.500 on balance beam (6.6 D score) x

THIS is what a nicely composed beam routine looks like. *side eyes rest of the world*

I remember stanning her during 2013 world’s, and being worried her beam wouldn’t reach its pltential, so to end up with her going into the Olympics as #2 in the world just makes me so happy.

Paul Ziert (publisher of International Gymnast) posted this on Facebook. He had quite a bit to say:

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE ROMANIAN WOMEN’S TEAM

I want to shout it out loud and clear that it was not solely your fault that the Romanian team did not qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. In fact, I don’t think it was your fault at all. You were simply pawns in a very ugly game of power and egos. It bothers me deeply to watch totally irresponsible adults make very poor decisions for young people in this world. Who in their right minds would have structured the qualifying of the team the way it came down? How is it even possible to make such poor decisions at the administrative level to put these lovely and talented young women in the position that they found themselves in Rio this weekend. For at least 40 years, it was always which medal would the Romanians win not whether they would even be there or not. OK, the draw for both the Glasgow Worlds and the Rio Test Event couldn’t have been worse; nevertheless, a sound strategy with input from everyone involved should have negated any unlucky draw. Instead, the Romanian hierarchy push the big RED button and the panic set in at all levels. I have lost so much respect for Octavian Belu, Mariana Bitang and the Romanian Olympic Committee. Socially, I like Octavian and Mariana, but how egocentric and stupid can they be to have stepped into the situation the way they did!! They are far from being miracle workers. How can this team function properly when they have been coached by 3 different sets of coaches in the past 5 months? How can Belu and Bitang take over the coaching of this team after Glasgow and not travel with them to Rio. What message does that send to this largely inexperienced team of talented young women. One does not need to be a PhD in Psychology to know that their not going would easily bred thoughts that this team was an embarrassment to them. They were inferior to the great teams they had coached to Olympic glory earlier in their careers. A team in trouble needs to know that everyone involved is accountable for the results. Had this team been shown respect and unconditional love, they would surely have performed better and thus qualified. Anyone who has been touched by the texture of the Romanian culture and people knows and feels how special these young ladies are. My thoughts and love are with each of them as they shoulder the blame of a fiasco where they had no representation in the decisions that led to this failure!!!

WHO LET THIS HAPPEN LMAO

@ KZB whyyyy

This screams Karolyi influence because Phoebe Mills was a Karolyi gymnast and had an Addams Family floor routine. Plus she was just before Kim Zmeskal.

NOOOOOOOOOOO WHY COULDNT THEY KEEP THE WEST SIDE STORY ROUTINE UGH

Now there are two Addams Family routines that exist in elite gymnastics this year. Please tell me KZB saw Yuna’s routine at WOGA. Let’s just pray Ragan’s doesn’t turn into the Home Alone 2 theme inexplicably in the middle like Yuna’s does.

Eww the bum twerk thing. I can’t watch.
