And just like that, another RIPExpo is done!

Thank you to our incredible sponsors at the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts, and to our generous friends at AS220 and the Providence Public Library. Special thanks to Nu, Pat, Mimi, and Chris, who went above and beyond, and to Stuart, Pia, Noraa, Dean, Katie, Simcha, Kay, and Jordan, who combined forces to save the day. Thank you to New Urban Arts and AS220 for letting us print a bunch of stuff. And we’d like to thank the founding team that started RIPExpo- Dailen, Cathy, Cybele, and Mimi.

Lastly, thank you to our awesome exhibitors, special guests, and attendees! There is no fest without you.

See you next year! 📸: Penina Gal

There’s TONS to see and do this weekend at RIPExpo!

Keep an eye on our fresh 2016 Programming page! We’ll be updating the list with cool stuff to keep you busy all weekend.

Check out a selection of programming by us, and our friends**:

FRIDAY

Altcomics 7**, 4 pm - 5:30 pm, Ada Books, 717 Westminster Street

2dcloud Press presents Altcomics 7, an afternoon of comics reading and performance by Tommi Parrish, Beatrix Urkowitz, Ben Passmore, and Cybele Collins.

Selfish Magazine**, 7 pm, Ada Books, 717 Westminster Street

Ada will host the makers of Selfish (girlsgetselfish.com), a feminist zine. They’ll discuss its history and inception, and they’ll read some pieces from the zine itself.

SATURDAY

Possible Futures, 1 pm - 2:30 pm, Providence Public Library Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, 150 Empire Street with Kevin Czap, Kate Schapira, Metropolarity, and Lorin Smith

The Metropolarity Collective, Kevin Czapiewski, Lo Smith and Kate Schapira are devoted to Possible Futures. Join us for acts of collective imagining and collaborative making: we’ll talk about the worlds we imagine through drawing and writing, make and draw artifacts from a future we would like to live in, and consider how to bring the futures we want out of the present we know.

Greg Cook’s Friends is Friends Book Release**, TBA, Ada Books, 717 Westminster Street

Greg Cook will stop by to promote his new book, published by First/Second, Friends Is Friends. He may also give a lively presentation on the use of sadness in comics.

SUNDAY

RISD Library Special Collections Open House**, 10am - 12pm, RISD Library, 2nd Floor with Ariel Bordeaux

An open house event for RIPExpo attendees & exhibitors to visit a collection of inspirational resources for artists and designers. A selection of books, zines and experimental publications will be displayed on our tables to view and explore. Guests are invited to learn about our special collections and artists’ books and how to access the collection, as well as learn about our new zine collection and how they can be a part of it. Zine donations welcome.

This event gives RIPExpo attendees & exhibitors a chance to learn how to access the collection, as well as for the RISD Library to meet with makers in order to expand our zine collection.

Providence Comics Consortium Workshop: Super Weakness!, 3 pm - 3:50 pm, Providence Public Library Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, 150 Empire Street  With Walker Mettling (pictured above!)

Come help us build a new team of totally bogus and weird superheroes through generative character design games!

And the special guests keep on coming!

Xander Marro is a Special Guest at RIPExpo 2016!

Xander Marro (American b. 1975) has been living the good life in the feminist sub-underground for too many years to count on her long bony fingers.  She draws pictures (usually narrative), makes movies (usually not narrative), produces plays with elaborate sets and costumes (usually narrative, but confusing), and then makes stuff like quilts and dioramas (probably narrative?). Her work is often about spiritual relationships to the material stuff of this world. Co-founder of the Dirt Palace in 2000, a feminist cupcake encrusted netherworld located along the dioxin filled banks of the Woonasquatucket River, which is to say in Providence, RI, USA.  Her studio (and heart) is there still.

Ben Passmore is a Special Guest at RIPExpo 2016!

Ben is the author of the DAYGLOAYHOLE series, Goodbye, and Your Black Friend. His comics are about nihilistic sci-fi romps, punk, porn addiction, black alienation, Anarchism, and machete based killing. He's a bummer at parties.

PEOW Studio is a Special Guest at RIPExpo 2016!

PEOW is a comic book publisher from Sweden. They like to make very exciting comics that are supposed to make you excited about comics. It can be stuff like... space, mechs, maybe a fantasy story, or vampires. It doesn't matter. Just as long as it is good.
