Kyoya could feel his eyes narrowing even more at the back of Dino’s head as the older male sat awkwardly below him, silently pleased that something as simple as a glare toward the other was enough to unsettle the blonde’s nerves, even after all this time they had spent together.

“Hn. I don’t need something as stupid as that.”

Reaching over, the younger teen grabbed the bottles and the scissors beside Dino’s hand and moved over to sit on the bed. Steel grey hues stared at the objects now resting in his lap, carefully stabbing one end of the scissors into the plastic bottle before carving away at the lid on one of the empty bottles. The skylark’s nose scrunched in contemplation as he cut along the top, not really paying attention to anything other than the object before him. Who knew it would have been this hard to cut annoying plastic with normal scissors.

Tch’, stupid...

“ Okay, this doesn’t seem to hard. ” Dino mumbled as he sat down at the desk in Kyoya’s room – he’s surprised he was even allowed back here after their last little misunderstanding – back a little straighter so that he seemed at least somewhat capable. He, of course, was probably not convincing, but it was the thought that counted, he was sure. He shuffled through their assignment sheets, grabbing the empty soda bottles and placing them on the empty desk in front of them only for them to topple over, Dino making haste in grabbing them before they rolled off the table and more slowly rested them upright once more. “So, step one is to make the biome.” @thewonderingcloud

Simply watching Dino as the older male fumbled around with the bottles on his desk had the skylark’s eye twitching in annoyance. Leave it to fate to stick him with the stupid one for the cross-class school wide project. Somewhere--in some past life, maybe--he felt like he must have wronged a god or some other unearthly deity with how often he had to deal with the blonde sitting before him.

“Aren’t you supposed to know what you are doing?”

Image

Clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth, Kyoya let out an annoyed sigh before unwillingly moving closer to the desk where the blonde was seated so that he could glance at the paper with their project instructions from over the older male’s shoulder. What idiot had even designed this stupid “environmental” project anyways???

It was all a waste of his time. The only plus side to his day so far was that his brother wouldn’t be home for quite some time.

The Weekend From Hell; Babysitting Kyo || closed thread ||

The movie hadn’t been really inspiring but the kids had chosen it so Anthony had opted to take a break from his studies and take a quick nap.

When he had woken up had Kyo and Dino fallen asleep, and from earlier that evening had Anthony learned not to wake Kyo up so he found a blanket and wrapped the boys up in it. He picked up his studies in silence before heading towards Hiba’s room to continue, he had asked for permission earlier and had it granted.

He had no idea what time it was but he lifted his head as he heard the door open and got up and walked out to see what was happening and then smiled as he heard Hiba’s voice, lifting one finger to his lips in a hushing gesture. “Welcome home.” he said, lowering his voice. “The kids are asleep on the couch. How come you’re early home?”

Image

He received no response at first — and had thus concluded he’d not been heard — but glanced up at the soft padding of footsteps, giving the blond a borderline deadpan look at the gesture. It was two AM, of course he understood that unless anyone was awake when he entered, it was better to stay quiet.

One thing made him blink, however.

Image

“—kids?”

Plural? That was the first he’d heard about that particular thing. Perhaps it was a good thing he’d decided to come home early, after all.

The wind was knocked out of the younger skylark as Dino’s full weight was suddenly shoved on top of him, toppling over to the side as a strong grip wrapped around his shoulder and midsection, forcing his body down as Dino moved.

What the hell--?!?

“Oi! Get the hell off of me!” Grunting as the younger teen tried to squirm out of the bronco’s death grip, Kyoya quickly found it was nearly impossible to bring his arms up from where they had been forced by his sides to punch the blonde in the head, quickly growing frustrated by the entire situation. If he tried to use his legs and kick the other off of him there was no doubt that Dino’s grip would have dragged him along with in his descent.

“You’re heavy you stupid--!”

Anthony looked up as he heard that Kyo stirred, smiling softly before focusing back on his studies. “He’ll be back in a moment, Kyo.”

And when his cousin walked in and handed him the cup did he take it with another smile. “Thanks, Dino.” he then took notice of Dino’s look at Kyo’s legs and shook his head with a small chuckle before yet again focusing on his work.

Tapping the steering wheel to an internal melody as he stifled a yawn behind his other hand, Hibari shook his head quickly to clear it before focusing on the road again. Maybe he was being stupid — it was partway past one AM and he had been up and busy all day — by driving home now rather than come morning, but there had been a nagging feeling in his entire body all day, so he’d likely not get a very good night’s rest either way.

After their conversation Friday, Kyoya hadn’t sent him any further messages. Not even to annoy him, or to complain— not for anything. It would’ve been a blessing of sorts, seeing as he’d hardly had much time for replying with how packed the schedule had been, but it had only unsettled him, to be fair.

Guilt had something to do with it to, he supposed. He recalled a psychoanalysis lecture that had mentioned that guilt could easily stem from doing things against your own wishes— not that he truly believed one hundred percent in any science, but it had its merit, sometimes.

Nevertheless, he’d decided to head home tonight, for his own restfulness’ sake if nothing else. For Kyoya’s sake too, although he didn’t expect he would be thanked for it. Kyoya and gratitude didn’t always go well hand-in hand.

But if it made the teen feel even a slight bit better, Hibari would consider that a success, all things considered.

He almost missed his exit — only saved by a quick glance up and right — and mentally berated himself for the slip-up as he had to break perhaps a touch too sharply. Luckily, not many other drivers were stupid enough to be on the road at this hour, so he wasn’t causing any immediate risks for an accident.

Now, wouldn’t that have been a fun conclusion of the day.

Because of said slip, he kept his focus more firmly on the road the rest of the way home, pulling up in the driveway just as the digits on the panel turned to 2 AM.

It was possible people were asleep — any reasonable person would be, at this hour — but he heard sounds from the living room when he opened up the entrance door. Huh. Well, it was Saturday, so—

“—I’m back.” He called, unsure if anyone would actually hear, and not really caring if they did; he instead focused on toeing his shoes off, setting them neatly in place before stepping into the hallway.

The constant drone of the TV in the background had lulled Kyoya into a light sleep, having moved over to the big couch where Dino had been sitting at some point in the night seeing as it was easier to see the screen from the position rather than the arm chair in the corner he had been resting on. His body slumped against the blonde’s side, not really caring that the older had seated himself so close, especially now that the warmth from Dino was actually helping to keep him warm and drowsy.

It was only when a snore from the older teen sounded that kyoya’s brows knit together, squinting from the brightness of the television as the skylark scowled up at the blonde. And elbow was swiftly dug into the older’s side as the shorter of the two gave a warning growl, clearly not wanting to hear the blonde’s snoring right in his ear.

“Oi, shut the hell up idiot horse....”

Glancing around the room, Kyoya didn’t notice any sign of Anthony, wondering if maybe he had retired into Hibari’s bedroom for the night after the two of them had fallen asleep on the couch. That would have explained the blanket draped across both his and Dino’s bodies. Tch;....he could have at least woken them up, but maybe he had learned from the first time that waking the younger ravenet from any kind of sleep was the worst possible decision he could ever make.

Anther snore sounded off to his right as Dino’s body slid further against his side and kyoya being the oh-so-caring....acquaintance? friend?--who knew what they were, really--gladly jabbed his elbow at the older blonde a second time, using his right arm to push at the dead weight leaning into him.

So annoying.

.....Hn...

All of this pent up frustration needed to go somewhere, so Kyoya decided to take a walk, hoping the fresh air would maybe clear his head. Slipping on shoes, the teen opened up the window in his bedroom, easily slipping out, feet slapping against the grass below with a dull thud. Better this way than through the front door where Anthony would no doubt question where he was going and why--maybe even follow him.

Annoying.

Yes, this way was definitely the better choice.

Grabbing the ends of the window, Kyoya pulled the pane of glass down before brushing his shorts off, hand slipping into his pockets as the ravenet began to make his way down toward the park close to their home. It was quiet and secluded at this time of the day--or at least he hoped it was. It was late afternoon, so he had figured most kids would be home by now. And if not, he could always find another place to just sit and think.

Luckily enough for him, the park was completely empty by the time Kyoya came upon it, pulling his phone out of his pocket as the younger teen took a seat on one of the swings. His legs kicked off from the ground and set the swing into a gentle rocking motion, eyes closing for a moment to take in the feel of just moving back and forth before Kyoya opened them once more, glancing down to the phone still safe in his grip.

Image

Giving a terse sigh, the ravenet faintly wondered if his brother had enough time for a call, only to give a shake of his head as if he already knew the answer. There was no way. Especially with the older skylark away on his internship retreat. Besides, Kyoya wasn’t going to call the other when he didn’t even have anything to say. Pointless. It would have just been a waste of time for the both of them.

He couldn’t believe he was actually starting to miss his brother with only a day or two gone by. Maybe it was due to the fact that this time Hibari wasn’t accessible at all by any means seeing as the other was miles away in some other town, furthering his education and career.

A short, incredulous laugh left the younger teen’s lips, head just barely shaking in disbelief at his own thoughts and feelings.

How pitiful....

Image

A good hour and a half of just lightly swinging back and forth had passed before Kyoya finally stood up from the swing, stuffing the phone he had never opened back into his pocket and making his way home.

Noticing that Dino’s eyes had found Kyo’s legs and he did his best to not chuckle at that and focused on his book. He needed to study after all. “Coffee please.” he gave his cousin a smile. “Hey, does aunt and uncle know that you are here?” he asked.

“Or are you staying the night? Hiba didn’t mention that there would be other’s here.”

Kyoya could feel his head starting to gently lull to the side, dipping to the right before the skylark picked it back up, refusing to really fall asleep in front of the two cousins. Even so, he was reaching the point where his body was beginning to protest against him from lack of decent sleep, only able to go so long without really relaxing. Even his “nap” from early couldn’t really have been called such seeing as the younger teen had been texting his brother continuously the whole time in between resting his eyes.

He was slowly coming to the realization that without Hibari around, he slept terribly; a fact he would have been better off never knowing due to the implications it had of depending on his brother for functioning correctly.

Tch’, maybe it was all just in his head....

Yeah, that was it.

Forcing his eyes open, Kyoya blinked a few times before gazing over at Anthony with bleary hues, taking a second to compose himself before he spoke up, having just noticed that a certain idiot was missing.

“Hn...? Where did the idiot bronco go?” The younger skylark yawned into his hand after speaking, raising it up higher to brush through his bangs a second time now that he had finally cooled off from when he first came out of his room.

Steel grey hues gazed over the last messaged he had received from Hibari more than the younger would have liked to admit, not quite sure on how he should respond without reopening old issues. He had already asked Hibari for specific things, and yet none of them had been dealt with the way the teen wanted.

He had asked to take care of himself and look where that ended up! Now he was stuck dealing with his brother’s irritating boyfriend as his babysitter for the entire weekend. He had asked for Hibari to just listen to him and trust him--unspoken, of course--through unconventional means and hidden phrases, but he had still asked in his own way regardless.

[To: Hibari]
I’ve already asked for plenty--

No....he didn’t really feel like going through this again with his brother.

Chewing at his lower lip in thought, Kyoya gripped the phone in his hands a little tighter before finally settling on one reply.

[To: Hibari]
I don’t need anything....
image
It wasn’t an exact lie, and it was one Kyoya often repeated to himself, doing his best to remain as independent as he possibly could, And yet, even now the younger skylark refused to admit how without Hibari around he couldn’t even so much as relax and rest properly.

Resting his phone on top of the pillow placed over his chest, Kyoya groaned and closed his eyes, hating every single one of the emotions swelling inside his chest. He was never one to show what he was truly feeling, but when it came to Hibari he got to a point where it just leaked out and into his words--and sometimes actions. He also knew that his brother was plenty capable of reading past his words and into their deeper meaning, but most of the time he liked to pretend that the older skylark had no such ability.

Definitely not.

Giving a third--or was it the fourth this time? had had lost count--stressed sigh, the ravenet picked up the phone and typed out a quick text, knowing it wasn’t his place to make Hibari worry about all of this when on an important retreat. His brother had plenty to stress about and here Kyoya was making his life even more difficult. Sure he was a brat with no regards of others needs most of the time, but if there was one person who had an exception to his “brattiness”--or so his brother would put it--it was Hibari.

[To: Hibari]
Never mind. It doesn’t matter.

Yes, he would have to put up with Anthony for longer, but if it meant he could give back to Hibari in some way--even if that way was not bothering him over mundane issues--then he would try his best, as much as it pained his ego. After all, his brother was the one who had practically raised him on his own. so it was only natural for Kyoya to feel a little guilty, right?

Right.....

Giving a terse sigh in annoyance, kyoya raised his hands up to his head and ruffled his hair, frustrated with the events of the day and how they had been playing out. Maybe if Hibari had at least warned him ahead of time in person rather than springing all of this on him unexpectedly through text the younger skylark wouldn’t nearly have reacted as harshly as he had.

Contrary to popular belief, Kyoya did feel bad for giving his brother such a hard time about all of this. The younger had a routine, and when a rock was unexpectedly wedged into that routine it through the teen off, emotions and feelings becoming irrational in their nature.

Rolling onto his back with yet another sigh, Kyoya grabbed his pillow and brought it up to his face, one arm wrapped around the object to keep it in place while the other grabbed his phone as it vibrated against his side.

Only one he could trust, huh--? Interesting...

[To: Hibari]
.....when are you coming back?...

It was a simple question, really, and if anyone--including Hibari--tried to question him about the endearing aspects of said question he would deny any accusations vehemently

Anthony merely nodded at the comment from the younger man and then pushed the box with the pizza over to him so he could eat some. He was sure that Kyo was hungry after all.

Image

He then scratched his head as Dino spoke up. “Yeah… I had to ask Hiba to pick you up since my boss forced me to work for two more hours.”

Anthony then turned another page in his book, he had to remember all of this… yet keep an eye on the younger two. Kyo’s mood wasn’t really good…

“Hn......”

Staring in complete silence as Anthony pushed a pizza box toward him, kyoya gave a small roll of his eyes before stepping away from both the older blonde and the food and over to the secluded arm chair in the corner of the living room, perfect distance from where the other two were seated so he could keep an eye on both of them.

From what he had gathered from the other’s conversation, His brother had met Dino way before kyoya even knew the older two sitting across from him were related. It wasn’t really a surprise to the ravenet seeing as Hibari was always the more sociable one out of the both of them.

Picking his feet up so that he was practically curled on the arm chair, Kyoya let his eyes flutter shut as he tried to block the two broncos out, dozing in and out now and again while still trying to pay attention to the conversation. At least in this room it was cooler and much easier to relax, regardless of the unwanted company.

“You don’t need to be “particularly intolerable’ to get this kind of treatment, idiot horse.”

He couldn’t help but continue to smirk at the older as the blonde’s mood worsened, finding it almost humorous that the other was responding in such a way; especially now of all times after being around Kyoya for so long.
