Blood of My Blood: The Law's Delay

Shout out to @ibrithir-was-here for putting up with my never-ending goal of overfilling the glorious Blood of My Blood AU with my ramblings and extra shout out to @everchangingfungusthoughts and @animate-mush for tripping me down the slope of Writing Another Text Brick. Specifically via this whole thing.

Summary: Jonathan Harker, now fifteen years deep into his life at Castle Dracula, finds himself the unwilling guest of yet another frightful host and his company. Talk and violence and time tick by.

The sun sinks low.

The dead travel fast.

And a vital Lesson is taught regarding the Law of the land.

Warnings for graphic violence, suicide, and murder.

i think my favourite horror trope is what i like to call "it gets better before it gets worse". the evil is seemingly defeated. the worst is apparently over. it was tough, and maybe you didn't all make it out in one piece, but you made it. except that you didn't. you're still infected, still marked. you bring the horror with you wherever you go. and there's no timeframe after which you can say you're safe with any certainty. it might lie dormant for years, just waiting for you to turn your back to it long enough to let it find you again. it knows your scent, now. it can hunt you down wherever you go.

it works so well on a metatextual level too. it's so easy as an audience to let yourself hope that maybe, this time, that's really it. it's really over. the characters you're rooting for won. you can relax now. then you remember what genre you're engaging with, or check the runtime, or page count, and feel your dread crystallise as you realise that there's still enough time left for a final, terrible act.

Queer Dreams

They rode to the death of Some One, but God alone knew who, or where, or what, or when, or how it might be....

They slept only when the horses did, but now in the saddle Jack rested his head on the shoulder in front of him, closed his eyes, his arms wrapped tightly and securely around the well-muscled waist. There was snow in the air and danger all around them, but this was warm, and safe.  Amid all the horror, the excitement, the exhaustion, he had found his own internal doubts and anxieties no longer plagued him as they had in comfort.

"You asleep back there, buddy?"

"Mmm?" Jack said.  "No, no, I just - " he broke off, startled by the sound of his own voice.  Cautiously he put his hand to his throat - his left hand - stubble there, of course, there had been no thought of shaving in this final desperate chase.  Tears came unbidden to the corners of his eyes, though he couldn't say why.  He blinked them away along with his somnolence.  "Why, what's wrong?"

plagues history and global epidemiology as an autistic special interest was already a heavy topic but not a day goes by I dont briefly recall drunkenly telling people at the bar in autumn 2019 “yeah the next pandemic will probably be a coronavirus and we’re due for one”

if they remember that i have to wonder if they think they met the devil at the club that night

Fact: The earliest reliably dated use of the phrase “fucked up” appears in the court records of a US Navy court-martial case from 1863; the way the phrase is used suggests that its meaning was already well known at the time, but this is the first known printed record of it that we can confidently put a date to.

Additional fact: Bram Stoker’s Dracula is set in 1897.

Conclusion: It would not anachronistic for your Dracula fanfic to have a character describe the Count as a fucked up old man.

i know we joke about cis artists having the weirdest sense of anatomy, but also even when the anatomy is fine, no one seems to want to draw women doing normal things

Drawing challenge: draw your favorite male characters like this
