Nova Neptune turned 5 today!
Patrick Barret, object programmer for the Sims and an openly gay man, originally programmed same-gender relationships into the game without instruction to do so.
“He just did it,” said David Graham, lead AI programmer of the Sims 4. “He just did it and it was a thing one day.”
Though this was originally allowed because EA did not have high expectations for the Sims, and there was public backlash against it, EA has included same-gender relationships in every Sims game since, adding marriage equality in the Sims 3 in 2009.
