Crucifixion is meant to scare other people into submission to the Roman Empire. And, the scourging is what precedes the crucifixion in order to make it as bloody of a death as possible. Because if you crucify someone without scourging them what happens is the slow death by asphyxiation, which is terrible but it’s even more horrifying if you lacerate their bodies beforehand and that was the Roman custom. So, for example, Josephus. who was a first century Jewish historian who fought in the war against Rome as a general, describes scourgings by Roman in his book, The Jewish War.

Why are you so violent?

There’s a documentary about a herd of baboons which has lost all of its aggressive dominant males to food poisoning. The surviving herd sticks to non-violent behavior among its members and discourages aggression in newcomers. The point is, even monkeys can be consistently nice to each other if the worst assholes are culled from the herd.

If you truly believe that, wouldn’t the best course of action be to get rid of people like you?

So the debate actually is: DO YOU WANT MORE PEOPLE TO DIE?

Conclusion:

Gun control = less death = safer country

That simple.

Actually, according to both the CDC and FBI, guns are used far more often to protect and preserve innocent lives than they are used to harm them. I’m willing to trust their actual math over your opinion.

In 1990 Australia had a murder rate of 1.9 which declined to 1.1 in 2013, a 42.1% reduction.

While America had a 9.4 murder rate in 1990 which has reduced to 4.5 in 2013, a 52.1% reduction.

In 1996 Australia had 145,902 violent crimes and a population of about 18.31 million. That gives us a violent crime rate of 796.8 per 100k.

In 2007 Australia had 215,208 violent crimes with a population of about 20.31 million giving it a crime rate of 1059.61. An increase of 24.7%.

Meanwhile the US violent crime rate in 96 was 636.63 which dropped to 471.8 in 2007. A 25.9% decrease.

While Australia has experienced a decline in the homicide rate this fails to correlate with their extreme gun control measures. This same reduction in murder was seen in America as well as many developed western nations as crime spiked in the 90s and then began it’s decline into the millennium.

While gun control advocates like to attribute Australia’s already lower homicide rate, that existed prior to their gun control measures, to those measures. We see that America saw greater progress without resorting to such extremes.
