A Note on Censorship

We’ve talked about this somewhat tricky subject before, but in light of recent events the topic is due for a little dusting off.

Every so often we get a message asking us to no longer reply to certain kinds of asks, or rec certain kinds of stories, or touch on certain kinds of topics. Things to do with rape, HTP, incest, underage, BDSM, disease, war, A/B/O; things that the sender thinks are wrong, bad, disgusting, disrespectful, condoning, propagating.

Not to be blunt or anything, but that is never, ever, ever going to happen. We’ll reiterate our mission statement: to find lost fics and to recommend the right story to the right person. Any story. All stories.

To further repeat ourselves: we firmly believe that every author has every right to write anything they like, in the manner that they prefer, about the subject they choose, and in the words they love, and that every reader has the right to read any story that they want or need to read. It might not be what we ourselves like to read, but that doesn’t matter one bit. It’s not our story. We’re not the people who need to read that story. It’s not on us to cast judgement on anyone who writes, or reads, and loves that story.

It’s not on anyone to cast judgement like that. No one has that right. Throughout the history of fandom, people have tried. It’s the very reason we have the Organization for Transformative Works, the very reason we have the Archive of Our Own. Because people have always tried to censor things they didn’t like, with the same kind of rhetoric and the same kind of excuses over and over that were really just puritanical right wing moral crusading disguised as liberal concerns all along.

There will be no content policing or censorship on this blog. We are a Library and that is antithesis to everything we stand for. No matter that we get reported for explicit content or inundated with messages, we won’t do it. We’ll fight back every time. It’s not happening. We’ll always find a way to get the stories out that you don’t want to be told. The Ao3 was built specifically to ensure that fandom would never be censored again, and we can only wholeheartedly pledge ourselves to that cause, because we are a Library and that’s what we do.

That being said, it’s not because everyone can write and read whatever they want, that we don’t understand that sometimes there are things you, personally, would really prefer not to come across. Because it triggers you, or squicks you, or just because it’s not your cup of tea, plain and simple. Thankfully, there’s a few tools out there to help you achieve that! This is how you can protect yourself:

We’ve talked about Ao3rdr and Ao3savior before. These tools will help you blacklist anything you need to on Ao3 to keep yourself not only spoiler-free, but also safe and happy in your reading endeavours.

There’s also TumblrSavior (Chrome, FireFox) and New XKit ( Firefox (.xpi), Chrome or Safari) that can help you do the same on Tumblr.

Please be kind to yourself and use these tools to protect yourself and your mental health. Also be kind to the other people in the fandom sandbox and don’t expect everyone to conform to your idea of how we should all play in that sandbox. Take responsibility for your own experience. Unfollow blogs who post things that make you feel bad. Don’t go into the tag of something you dislike. Don’t read stories that have content that squicks you out. Heed tags. Use the ‘back’ button if you need to. Don’t like, don’t read is not just there for the author; it’s there for the reader, first and foremost. So please, be kind to yourself and just don’t. It’s ok if you don’t. Fandom is supposed to make you happy, not angry or upset or sad or scared or panicked or any of that. We want to help you be happy by finding you your kind of story. And everyone else their kind of story. So please help us do that by taking care of yourselves.

With much love, The Stucky Library Librarians

I just wanted to let you know that even though I might not agree with some of the explanations you have posted I wanted to say Thank You for being respectful about others opinions. I’ve seen a lot of hate going towards Stucky shippers and i felt like it’s really unfair to just blame them when it’s not just Stucky shipper that’s we’re not happy about that ending. I feel like the ending could have been handle better and still have the same outcome but alas Marvel and The Russo’s would never.

No worries bb! I completely understand people have a million different reasons for not liking the ending (or different parts of the movie), and they’re not any less valid than my million reasons for liking it.

Really, the only thing I can’t get behind is the viciousness or bringing Cevans into this because he’s shown us nothing but kindness and he personally seems to be very proud of the way his character’s story ended, and his opinion is just as valid as everyone else’s.

Other than that, i’ll be here sympathetically patting the backs of everyone who didn’t love it and trying to cheer them up and to make fandom a nice, happy corner for everyone, just like i’ve always done

hELLO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THOR X QUILL THO

It’d start off as a hate sex kinda thing. Competitive. Rough. One day the tension just snaps and then there’s hungry, frantic kisses and hands roaming and them slamming each other into walls, shoving tongues down each other’s throats, biting, scratching.

But Thor is Thor, and he cares for people. He’s pokes fun, but he’s not cruel, and he’s very clearly enjoying riling Quill up, getting a reaction out of him, thinking hey, that’s their thing, right? but he also cares, he’s also kind.

But Quill? Quill thinks he’s convincing, thinks he’s pulling off that tough boy attitude just fine, but he’s actually ridden with insecurities and Thor is Thor, a god, an angel pirate. Thor clearly gets along with everyone but keeps clashing with Quill, and Quill hates that he’s falling hard, falling deep.

Quill crying in frustration when it all comes crashing down and talks about feelings finally happen, cause he didn’t ask for this, what the fuck, what the fuckkk, why do i love you, you’re an idiot and a god and… YOU. and no, fuck, i don’t need your pity, i hate this, it blows, okay?

And then, of course, Thor is super ultra soft, makes him look up and gently wipes his tears away, and Quill can’t stand this, says “don’t touch me!!” but Thor won’t have any of that, Thor is just realizing they’re so not on the same page here, that Quill needs the reassurance and some gentleness. Thor pushes past those walls and kisses him soft and nice, and Quill wants to punch him for it but he melts into the kiss anyway, throws his arms around Thor’s neck and pulls him closer before he can know what he’s doing. Thor’s got him, they’ll be fine.

Also, all the sex, like

thor conjuring up the tiniest amount of lightning while working quill open, sending a little shockwave as he brushes his fingertips over quill’s prostate, makes his back arch beautifully and tears a scream from him and makes him come on the spot, untouched and gorgeous, and neither of them can get enough of it

Pls fam board my lil canoe, i don't wanna row alone

i honestly would just like to thank you for putting in the time and effort to explain the time travel of endgame. it really helped me wrap my head around it, since i’ve been thinking about it for days now, but i couldn’t keep everything straight. love you 3000 :)

;A; aaaa, my pleasure, bb! i’m not saying it’s a perfect explanation, but i think it was accurate where it counts lol (the steve thing basically lmao)

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the little braid Bucky had in his hair when he came out of the portal into battle?? I headcanon that Shuri and Peter spent the time styling his hair while Sam teased him. And of course the teens watched Bucky and Sam bicker and egged them on while Okoye, T’Challa, and Strange rolled their eyes and sighed. Sorry this got away from me lmao. Also Bucky was at the funeral servin Looks!!! 👀👀

WE CAN AND MUST TAKE ALL THE MOMENTS TO APPRECIATE THIS

Bucky was mudering people with his looks at the funeral, someone should tell him that’s not appropriate flkfdkhfgkhk

Hey! I adored Endgame and I was actually surprised to see the hate over Steve's ending on tumblr. I'm a Stucky shipper, but the canon ship is Steggy so like... that's that. I'm happy for Steve. Reviews I've seen are happy for Steve. So I meant to ask, is this hate a general-audience thing, or a small portion of mainly Stucky stans and ppl who tend to woobify Bucky? It might sound harsh, but Bucky's fine without being with Steve 24/7. Implying anything different is disrespectful to his character.

I’m definitely seeing it coming mostly from Stucky shippers, but considering I’m pretty much a Stucky blog and that’s the kind of content I see the most, that’s really like saying nothing. I know the general public loved the movie, but they also don’t tend to care about characters’ arc and motivations the way fandom does, and i really haven’t had much access to what other parts of the fandom think about the movie.

I really don’t want to speculate about whether this comes down to shipping or not. It probably plays a part, but there’s definitely valid reasons for not liking the ending. My only real issue is with those arguing that it’s the same timeline and saying things like “steve let bucky get tortured” or “steve knew about 9/11 and let it happen” (christ, don’t get me started on how disgusting that kinda jokes are) because it’s perfectly established in canon that it’s not the same timeline and that there’s nothing Steve could’ve done to change OUR bucky’s past.

Other than that, i’m not gonna try to tell people they need to like this, because it all really comes down to interpretation and to what’s fulfilling or not for you.

For some people, Steve’s choice was him leaving Bucky and everything else he’d built behind to live a quiet life with Peggy, and I can see how that’d feel maybe a bit out of character.

For me, it was Steve refusing to take even just one thing for himself, the one thing he’s wanted throughout his entire arc, until he knew 100% that the world was safe and his friends would be okay. For me it was Steve putting everything else above his personal happiness right up until the point when he realizes he has a chance to live that other life, and HELP AND DO GOOD IN THAT OTHER LIFE (which i’m convinced he does), knowing fully well that he’ll come back to this one and everything will be EXACTLY WHERE AND HOW HE LEFT IT. It’s Steve only letting himself have this when he can be sure that Bucky is safe and his actions won’t affect anyone. And to me that’s 100% Steve Rogers.

so i saw your post today about how this whole time travel nonsense works & i was like, finally! this actually makes sense!! but cue a few hours later when i read a post where the russos admitted they don't actually have a solid theory on what's going on with cap: “If Cap were to go back into the past and live there, he would create a branched reality. The question then becomes, how is he back in this reality to give the shield away? Interesting question, right? Maybe there’s a story there." sooo

I actually haven’t seen anything that contradicts the way I understood the movie to go? the only thing that was a bit wonky for me was whether there’s really a difference between alternate realities and timelines.

Given the way the Ancient speaks, I assumed that yes, there was, and took it to mean that alternate realities are like, major changes in the flow of time, branches that could be potentially devastating, while different timelines are just that same flow of time splintering a bit, y’know?

The russos might’ve not been as careful with their wording, of there might actually not be a difference and the Ancient was simply saying not that all branches in the flow of time were terrible very bad no good, but that that branch specifically, the one resulting from them taking the time stone, was bad, and that in her reality they needed the time stone a few years from then to prevent Dormammu from destroying everything.

All of these isn’t that relevant imo, the point is it’s pretty firmly established that Cap traveled to a different timeline (or reality), and that he wasn’t living through the MCU chronology we know nor retconning Peggy’s life or letting Bucky get tortured or anything, which is what people really seemed to have an issue with (:

The key thing, really, is that the movie does follow its own rules. there’s no plot hole. They can’t change the past, and Steve has the pym particles to travel back to his own timeline, which is why he doesn’t show up on Bruce’s machine. This much i think it’s 100% clear.
