Women of Star Wars

@womenofstarwars / womenofstarwars.tumblr.com

It's no secret the dearth of women that Star Wars suffers from. This blog is dedicated to appreciation of these women, both in the books as well as in the movies, and to discuss the role that women play in the Star Wars universe as a whole.

This will be the last post ever on this blog.

I just came back from TRoS and I’m so incandescently angry about everything it choose to be that I cannot stomach the idea of being involved with anything Disney Star Wars ever again.

So this blog is permanently finished. I’m never going to resurrect it.

For now, it will remain as an archive, but if the response to the movie in general gets bad enough, I may end up deleting it permanently just I don’t have it anywhere in my life.

Sorry to anyone who hoped that this blog would be back but I just can’t handle it.

WomenofStarWars on indefinite hiatus

I have decided to put this blog on indefinite hiatus. I had hoped that the release of The Last Jedi and the new material that came with it would help re-energize my love of Star Wars, but instead it did the opposite. I’m more frustrated, annoyed, and just plain tired of Star Wars than ever. Going through the tracked tags is more of a chore than a pleasure and quite frankly, it’s not helping my mental health in the slightest because it’s one more thing to force myself to do and the more things there are, the less likely I’ll do any of them (and given I’m in the homestretch for my master’s, not doing any of them is very bad).

So I’m stepping away for a while. I’m untracking all the tags, I’m going to ignore any messages or notes from this blog, I’m going to avoid all official Star Wars news, I’m going to avoid fandom wank as much as possible, and I’m not going to keep up with any new books, tv shows, movies, etc that come out. I’m hoping this break will help me bleed out some of my frustration and make Star Wars fun for me again.

I went through something similar after the Legacy of the Force series was published and I got too frustrated with how badly my favorite characters were being handled. Obviously, I got past that and fell in love with Star Wars again because this blog exists and I was super excited about it for a long time! But I need that extended break again.

The blog will stay up, the archive will still be available if anyone chooses to search it, but nothing new will be added for the foreseeable future. With luck, I’ll be back with new enthusiasm and new ideas for making this blog better.

Thank you to all of my followers for supporting this blog over the years, y’all have been awesome.

Anonymous asked:

could you draw a f/f ship between the jedi ladies? like depa and luminara, or shaak and luminara? if not that is ok too! i love your art of the jedi

Hey, sorry about the long wait!

I gave this some thought and came up with Shaak Ti and Stass Allie, mostly because of that moment (in some version of canon) where the two of them are protecting the Chancellor before he gets “captured” leading up to Ep III. They end up facing down Grievous together, Stass Allie gets injured and Shaaki Ti has to temporarily leave her behind. Just thought of how dramatic and emotional that would be if they were close.

Going from one of the most hated characters in the Star Wars fanbase when she was first introduced to one of the most beloved ones… NO ONE has earned their place in the franchise more than this girl.

Long live “‘Lil ‘Soka,” “Youngling,” “Snips,” “Fulcrum.” Long live AHSOKA.

She could be the best character in the franchise. She was my Luke Skywalker growing up and I couldn’t be prouder of this character. Filoni is a genius and deserves a movie of his own.

Usually I do in cosplay and out of cosplay! But this time I wanted to try something a little different! Especially since me to Padmé isn’t as dramatic of a transformation as Padmé to Queen is! lol I have the Padmé full makeup/costume tutorial already posted on YT! And the Queen Amidala tutorial is posted early access on my Patreon to “Pug Squad” + ! Everything done/made by me! Except red gown from Cosplay Sky

One of the most worrisome parts for me, was when Padme offered to teach Ahsoka about politics. And I can’t remember if that was before, or after Padme had blamed the clones for the state of the war/republic. And that same woman,  with such a privileged/elitist mindset is going to teach Ahsoka.

That rubbed me the wrong way.

Padme knows politics, but she is also a senator and she sees it and exercises it in a different way than normal people (people who aren’t politicians). Politics give her power and we’ve seen people–like the clones and Teckla–become victims of Padme because of her power. We’ve seen how Padme’s political power affects the marginalized groups, who are at her mercy.

Ahsoka is on the battlefield constantly, and she is a jedi. She doesn’t need to form a perspective on the political climate or on the current state of the war from Padme. She needs to form it by herself and if she wants to get advice, she needs to maybe ask the clones how they feel about what Padme said/blamed them for (or how they view the war in general). She doesn’t need to listen a rich woman who is clearly out of touch with the groups she speaking about because of her privilege, Ahsoka needs to listen to the people that Padme’s political power actually targets and negatively affects.

I know people thought that scene was cute, and a moment that was like “mother/daughter”, but it always rubbed the the wrong way. And I always speculated that her conversation and closeness toward Padme, was another reason Ahsoka was distant to the clones and may have often mistreated them. Because she learned how to view them from Padme and Anakin, two people who see the clones as either tools or scapegoats to put blame on.
