He sighed and clenched his jaw, but not being able to look away. He sat with Monty, working on another batch of moon shine while watching her from across camp. She was fooling around with Miller and he couldn’t help but feel jealous, wanting nothing more than to be Miller in that moment. Anything really, just to be near her. He tried not to. He tried to look away, but he couldn’t find it within himself to, she was beautiful, ya know, like in that subtle way. He couldn’t help himself but to stare at her. He could imagine it, him and her. Whether it be holding hands or kissing. God, would he love to kiss her. Her lips look so soft and so- He was knocked from his tempting thoughts when Monty punched him in the shoulder. “What the hell man!” “You were drooling,” he said flatly. Jasper hurriedly reached up to his mouth and wiped, only to find nothing. He rolled his eyes and shoved Monty back. “Seriously dude, you gotta stop with the whole longing looks from afar. Just ask her out already.” “I can’t,” he sighed, “she only sees me as friend, nothing more.” He racked his hands through his dark brown hair, deliberately keeping his eyes from wandering back to her. “And look at her, she’s obviously interested in Miller.” Monty just shook his head and scoffed, “You’re an idiot, she’s totally into you. Have you seen the way she acts around you, all nervous and blushing.” “That’s because she’s shy, nothing else.” But all Jasper wanted was for what Monty was saying to be true. Monty rolled his eyes, “She has a crush on you, idiot. You’re just too dumb to notice. Go talk to her.” “Bu-” “Go. Talk. To. Her.” He emphasized each word, not giving Jasper a chance to refuse. Reluctantly, he walked toward the medical tent where he saw her walk off to. When he entered the tent, he saw you talking to one of the 100, who wore gauze on their hand. “I suggest not playing with knives from now on,” she advised, not noticing Jasper yet. “Yes mam,” the former prisoner replied with an eye roll before getting up and passing Jasper, leaving the tent. Wiping his hands on his thighs, removing the sweat. “H-hey,” he stutters, cringing. She jumped, quickly turning around. “Oh, hey Jasper. You need something?” “Oh, uh, no. No, I just wanted to say hi. So…hi.” He squeezes his eyes shut, cursing himself in his head. She giggled, “Hi.” Cue the awkward pause. She cleared her throat before saying, “Well I gotta get back to work, Clarke wanted me too mix these herbs, but I’ll look for you at dinner.” Wiping his hands again, he stuttered a goodbye and nodded. Leaving the tent, he kicked himself, wishing he could be like Bellamy when around women. Avoiding going back to Monty, not wanting to be mocked for chickening out, he wandered around camp. ~~~ It had gotten dark and the camp was significantly quieter, everyone asleep. Jasper was making his way to his tent when he heard it. It sounded like a snap of a twig. Frozen in place, slight fear taking over, breath halting, straining his ears for any other peculiar sounds. Not hearing anything else, he continued toward his tent. Snap Okay not nothing! Deciding to see what was causing the noise he went to look, ignoring his better judgement. Grabbing his knife, he made his way towards the trees. Cautiously, he moved through the brush and toward the noise, seeing a figure a few yards away. Walking forward, accidentally stepping on dead leaves, alerting the figure of his presence. Cursing himself, he prepared for a gruesome end. Only to be surprised to be met with a familiar face. “Oh shi- hey?! Wha, what are you doing out here?” Jasper yelped. Jumping, she looked up in shock, before calming down, realizing it was just Jasper, “Oh, hey Jasper. What are you doing out here?” “Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” She giggled then blushed. “I just wanted to take a walk, ya know, get out of camp for awhile.” “Well just be careful. It’s not safe being out here all alone,” rushed out of Jaspers mouth. She nodded and bit her lip. God, she’s trying to kill him. “How about you stay out here with me and we can talk. It looked like you had something to ask me at dinner anyway.” She looked up at him expectantly, waiting for a an answer, blushing some more. This was his chance. He could ask her right now. It’s just one question. Easy. Well, I mean once you get passed the crippling anxiety and the threat of her saying no. Shuffling his feet and wiping his sweaty palms on his thighs, he swallows and says, “W-will, uh, will you,” he pauses, clearing his throat before trying again, “I was wondering, maybe you’d, uh, God this is hard,” he muttered. “It’s okay Jasper, you can tell me anything,” she looked up at him shyly. He took a deep breath and blurted out, “I love you!” His eyes go wide. Oh God. Oh God. Oh God. That was not what he meant. Well actually he did, but he didn’t mean to say it. He glanced at the shocked, wide eyed girl in front of him. He stuttered, trying to retain some dignity in this embarrassing moment. “I, uh.” “You what?” She whispered, still in shock from the accidental confession. Jasper didn’t say anything, feeling like a fish out of water. Trying to form some sentence was almost impossible when she was looking at him like that. He sighed, giving up, “I, uh, I love you?” It sounded more like a question. Before he could embarrass himself anymore, he felt warm, soft, of so soft, lips on his and he’s pretty sure his world exploded.
