“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. That came across a lot more snarky than originally intended. A focus on nihilism might not even be the worst idea in this case – but no, you’re right of course. I asked for your help and I’m, in all honesty, grateful that you’re taking the time to try and find me something fitting so I should start displaying more cooperative behaviour. As long as we won’t be leaving this building with this one in a shopping bag at least. No offense of course but the colour really doesn’t work on me.”

“Alright then… the deeper green doesn’t make me look ill I don’t think which is… an improvement, for sure. I guess I just need to get used to wearing green shades in general which aren’t exactly a wardrobe staple of mine.”

“Mm.” 

“Yeah. It’s an improvement, that much I will say, but whether it’s the right choice is something that I very much doubt. You don’t have to wear green, obviously, it just was more a suggestion as to give you some variation away from the colour scheme that, left to your own devices, you would have most probably gravitated towards. Tell me, is there a colour that you’d actually like to wear or are you open to anything that isn’t green?”

”I don’t want sympathy. The last thing I want is anyone thinking they should go easy on me. I can handle it. You’re a far more dedicated bunch then the Revelations. At least the training seems a bit more intense than what I was doing. It just puts me a step behind is all.

“I didn’t mean it as that but you can take it however you want.” Claire gave a silent response to the rest, restarting the attack from the beginning without the words. She wanted this. She wanted to prove she was more than the rumors let people see or believe “Better.”

“A step behind what exactly? As far as I’m aware, most of our trainees start from no formal training whatsoever, simply that which the streets have provided for them; just because you happen to be a step behind literally doesn’t mean that you can afford to be figuratively as well. Prove to me that you can handle it, do it in a manner that’s satisfactory once today and we can take a rest. I do understand what you’re going through, I too have completed basic training like this, but you need try harder."

“The technique that you employed then was far better, not perfect by any means but definitely an improvement upon the previous few attempts. As for the speed of the action itself,” he pursed his lips, “that needs a great deal of work. Had the person on the receiving end possessed any skill in this field then they’d have been well aware of what you were doing, broken free of your grip and retaliated by the time that you’d raised the knife to their neck. You only added to problems by allowing your nerves to show, ensure that all negative emotion is hidden from your face as you go through the movements or else you risk revealing a weak spot. Once more please, in your own time.”

”It’s harder than you think. And frustrating. I don’t want to be seen as weak. I want them to know I can do this. I only did one job before I got kicked out of the Revs, but that was shooting the target from a distance. I never even saw their face or anything.”

“You’re as good as anyone, Salvatore.”

“Do you honestly believe that I would be offering you any assistance if I had no idea as to how best this task should be performed? I know it’s hard but I’m the last person that you should come to if you’re looking for sympathy. The vast majority of us have had to learn to do this and, as frustrating and difficult as it may be, it’s by far one of the easier tasks that you’ll be asked to complete as a member of this organisation. If you don’t want to be seen as weak then prove that you aren’t; nobody here cares for your word alone unless it’s shown itself to hold true meaning in the past.”

“Mm, okay. Normally I would advise you against being such a dreadful kissass but, when it’s my ass that you’re attempting to kiss, I’ll simply accept the compliment and move on from it without further word. Thank you." He offered a wry chuckle before directing his gaze towards the dummy once more. “Now, try again and heed what I just said, it’s not too difficult and to believe it to be as such only adds another mental barrier for you to overcome. Be more fluid in your movement, less jerky.”

“I do actually. Can we talk?”

“Certainly.” There was a lapse in speech in which the politician (discreetly) took in his companion’s somewhat disheveled appearance before adding: “just go to my secretary’s desk, ensure that you’re signed in and verified, then she’ll buzz you in and we can discuss whatever it is that you came here to talk about.”

“Apologies for the inconvenience when you’re here at the door already but it’s protocol, keeps me up to date on where I am in the day, greatly reduces the stress that my secretary is under and ensures you are who you say you are - we had a period of reporters stealing appointments from members of the public last year and hope to avoid any relapses of such.”

“Oh, I apologize I hadn’t realized…well I should have figured. I was only wanting to ask you a few questions Mr. Rossi. If that’s not too much trouble.”

“Define a few words, because, often, the difference between what I would consider to be a few words and what one who works within the press would consider to be a few words tends to vary in article length, format and headline.”

“I do so happen have time for a few words, off the record and the choice of whether or not I choose to answer any question that you pose being entirely at my discretion, but anything beyond that would require a formal appointment vetted and organised through my press secretary. Do you still wish to speak to me or am I able to return to my work?”
