DoctorRose is my OTP. I track the tag ascballerina. Doctor Who/ballet/other blog. Mostly DW despite the theme! Warning: I'm not Moffat-friendly. Pics of me can be found in the asc-in-photos tag--I know people hunt for tagged /me sometimes, but after the reddit photo editing scare I thought I'd be safer about it.

Note: Guess I found time write after all.

Seven more months.

Rose was starting to get anxious. She knew she wasn’t always the easiest person to deal with, and sure, John was in her head all the time, but that wasn’t the same as living with her.

It’s pretty much the same as living with you, John pointed out when he picked up on those thoughts. Rose shrugged miserably.

Living with me means you have to put up with me taking too long in the shower and staring at the fridge because I can’t decide what I want to eat or if I want to eat and getting up every ten minutes because I can’t sit still—

Oh, well when you put it that way you’re right, that sounds awful, John cut Rose off dryly. Take a breath, Rose. I love you. Believe it or not I already know about a lot of your little quirks because I experience them every single day. There’s almost nothing you could at this point that would surprise me. Unless you have a secret cache of bodies somewhere that you’ve been hiding from me for almost ten years. Then we might need to talk.

Rose giggled a bit despite herself. No bodies. She paused for a moment. We’ve known each other for almost ten years. Feels like longer.

Why, because I’m so insufferable? John teased, and Rose rolled her eyes.

No, I just… I feel like you’ve always been here, you know? She couldn’t remember a time when John hadn’t been here, in her head. And she liked it that way. She liked having him here.

I like having you here too, John said, and Rose could just imagine the stupid little smile on his face as he said that. I love you.

I love you too. Rose definitely didn’t have a stupid little smile of her own as she said those words. Definitely not.

Of Coveralls and Penguin Suits

Rating: Teen

Relationship: Nine x Rose

Summary: Rose had noticed him straightaway but she had no idea he’d noticed her, too.

Notes: Hello lovely people! This is my attempt at the @timepetalsprompts weekly ficlet prompt ‘mechanic AU’. Of course, as usually seems to happen with me, this turned out waaaaaay longer than I expected, so this is only chapter 1 of 2. Second chapter likely to go up tomorrow. This is actually my first human AU so I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing and I can only hope this turned out OK. FYI, the Nine I imagined for this story is CE as he appeared in his Top Gear interview back in 2005.  And now, on with the show!

Also on A03.

Unbeta’d, all mistakes are mine.

He usually came in just after noon.

In fact, he’d been coming to the grubby little takeaway where she had lunch for over a month now, and he always came in just after noon. Sometimes he’d sit and eat, and other times he’d take his sandwich and go, striding off on those impossibly long legs of his.

But he always came in at the same time. That was the very first thing that Rose had noticed about her mystery man, and today was no exception: five past twelve on the nose and there he was.

She tried not to stare as he loped into the grubby takeaway she favoured (because of course the second thing she’d noticed was that he moved with a feline, prowling sort of grace that made it very hard to stop staring and pay attention to her lunch).

“I want to spend the weekend at John’s.”

John groaned quietly in the back of Rose’s head. He had been hoping Rose would approach the subject with a bit more… finesse. Jackie and Pete exchanged looks, raising an eyebrow.

“Rose, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Pete said slowly. “Imagine what people would say if—”

“Aren’t you the one always saying we shouldn’t care what other people think or say?” Rose demanded. It was all she had heard, over and over — it doesn’t matter what people say, it doesn’t matter what those magazines write.

“You’re only sixteen, Rose. I don’t think it’s appropriate. Especially if you’re going to be staying in his dorm.”

“We’re — wait.” Rose frowned deeply. “How did you know he was staying on campus? I never told you that.”

“You’re falling asleep.”

Am nooooooot.

“Are toooooooooooo,” John teased, laughing as Rose sleepily stuck her tongue out at him. They were on Skype again, mostly just watching each other and smiling stupidly. They’d spent so long silently communicating, words seemed unnecessary.

And now Rose was falling asleep. John could feel that she was tired, and of course he wasn’t going to keep her awake. But it was fun to tease her.

Am…” Rose yawned widely, burying her face in her arms, “not.”

John grinned, lying back in his bed as he began singing quietly. Rose was tired. She needed to sleep.

Not faaaaaaaaair,” Rose whined. John shushed her and continued singing. It only took Rose a few minutes to fall asleep. John grinned as he felt her peace wash through his mind.

Watching and feeling her sleep was honestly one of the best things. John couldn’t wait for the day he could do it in person.

Warning For: Eating disorder

John: 18; Rose: 16

I don’t want to go back.

I know, but you kind of have to.

Rose sighed. She had at least convinced her parents to let her transfer to a new school. Not that it really mattered. Everyone knew the Vitex heiress had been in rehab and there were plenty of rumors going around as to why. Not that anyone had even come close to the truth — the most prominent rumor was drugs — and Rose certainly wasn’t going to share with them.

But no matter where she went, whispers were going to follow her.

I wish I could just get a tutor or something. Being stuck at home all day would be so much better than having to deal with people.

It’ll be okay, John assured her. You’ll get through it. And I’ll be here, I promise.

You’re hardly ever here anymore. Rose didn’t mean to sound so bitter, but there was really no way of hiding the feeling. John had, of course, gotten into his first choice of universities — Columbia — and had moved onto campus a week earlier. He had been busy with incoming student events, getting to know the campus, and securing himself a tutoring job. He was trying to save up to get a car.

John was quiet for a moment, and Rose could feel his guilt. I know, he said finally. I’m sorry. It’s been busy.

I know it has, I just… Rose sighed, frustrated. She missed John. She knew John was busy, but it was hard when he couldn’t talk to her. Especially since she was barely talking to her parents. They had more or less buried the argument they’d had about John, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t still on Rose’s mind.

And it didn’t mean she wasn’t angry.

The Universe Next Door

Here is the first (of hopefully many) excerpt from Perfect Match. This is actually an alternate chapter to Chapter 13. I was getting so sad writing the original version, that I wrote this as a backup. I decided to stick with the original, but I kept this to share with you all. I hope you like it!
Ten x Rose, Soulmates AU
listen: there’s a hell of a good universe next door; let’s go.
AO3 || Perfect Match

Robert paced the length of the waiting room agitatedly as he waited for news, any new, on his family. The last hour was a blur of bright, flashing lights and many overlapping voices. He had been mostly conscious as emergency responders pried their car apart enough to get to them. James had been taken away first, and he hadn’t been conscious the last he’d seen him.

When they got to the hospital, he and Vera had been separated, to be checked over for their own injuries, and no amount of shouting or begging had helped keep them together. He’d been released and remanded to the waiting room, with nothing but his thoughts for company, as he prayed for his family to be okay.

But the longer he sat by himself, the more frantic he became. What if Vera hadn’t been as all right as she’d looked? What if something had happened to her? And James. Had James woken up yet? Was he going to be okay? He would never forgive himself if anything happened to his wife or boy.

He shoved a hand through his hair and tugged slightly, before he dropped his hand to his arm. He wriggled his fingers under his sleeve to rub them over the ink from Vera’s latest message to him.

Don’t forget, we need to pick up milk tonight after dinner xo.

Dermatological Oculorum

For the ‘soulmates’ square of @legendslikestardust‘s Fluffuary Bingo
9 x Rose
The Doctor notices something familiar about Rose’s soulmark.
Read on AO3 | Whofic

“What’s that?”

Rose blinked, and frowned at the Doctor, confused at what he was asking.

“What?” she asked him, baffled at the question.

Her left arm was still outstretched, holding out the tool he’d asked her to pass him while he did some maintenance beneath the TARDIS console. Her right hand was clutching her tea, while a gossip mag she’d picked up from their latest trip back to her own time was resting on her crossed legs.

“That, on your wrist,” the Doctor continued, his fingers wrapping around her wrist and pushed the sleeve of her hoodie up.

Rose tensed, feeling uncomfortable beneath the scrutiny of his gaze.

“It’s my soulmark,” Rose mumbled, trying to tug her arm away from him. She could practically feel the gaze of his blue eyes piercing her skin.

“But that’s impossible,” the Doctor was saying, and his gaze was still on her wrist rather than her face.

“No it’s not,” Rose retorted, a little defensive, “almost everyone has soulmarks.”

He finally looked up at her face, then. He was frowning, a look of confusion and fear on his face, and Rose couldn’t work out why.

“Doctor?” she prompted warily, setting her tea down and pushing the magazine from her lap as he scrutinised her skin further. “Doctor, what is it?”

“Your… Your soulmark,” he managed finally, letting go of her wrist as he climbed out from beneath the console.

Warning: Body image issues, eating disorders

John ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head and sighing. He was having the worst time focusing. And as much as he hated to say it, it was Rose’s fault. Because she couldn’t focus. Because she was hungry.

Maybe you should actually eat dinner tonight. He didn’t mean for it to come out so sarcastically. But she had skipped dinner every night this week and it was clearly effecting her.

I’m not hungry, Rose insisted weakly. She was trying to practice — she had a big concert coming up in a couple weeks — but her music sheet kept blurring, the notes running together.

John was right. She was hungry.

Illusions of the Sunlight (Oneshot)

Title: Illusions of the Sunlight Rating: K+ Pairing: Rose Tyler/Tenth Doctor, implied Rose Tyler/Ninth Doctor (all human) Summary: Everyone always thinks death is the end. Unfortunately, the death can’t always leave until the living let them go.
Notes: This….this is just angst. I’m sorry. This is pure angst.
Listen to this song to get the full effect.
WARNING: Character death. So much character death.

James gritted his teeth as he listened to the funeral director hassling his wife, trying to get her to buy the six-thousand pound coffin. It would be so much better, he was saying, and James wanted to punch him. Who was he to take advantage of a poor, mourning woman?

“Listen, bub,” Donna cut in. “We gave you our budget and this coffin wasn’t in it, so move on.”

James had never been more grateful for his sister than he was in that moment. He watched her drag Rose off, the hapless funeral director sputtering and trying to keep up.

Poor idiot didn’t know what hit him when Donna Noble walked through his door.

Gravity || Chapter Six

Title: Gravity (Part 6/20) Rating: K+ Summary: —AU, all human— Awkward new boy John Noble isn’t expecting much out of his new school — and his lack of expectations are fulfilled when he’s targeted by a bully on the first day. What takes him by surprise is pretty, popular Rose Tyler coming to his rescue.
Note: I originally posted the prologue and first thirteen chapters of this story on my now-deleted Metacrisis roleplaying account. I’m reposting the prologue and first thirteen chapters here now.

Test next week.

The very words made Rose want to cry. She was so tired of studying and tests and not understanding a god damn thing. John kept saying she was smart, but they both knew that was bull.

She was not smart. She knew just enough to squeak by, and when that stopped being adequate she would be screwed.

“Breathe, Rose,” John whispered in her direction, and she sucked in a sharp breath as the bell rang.

“God I’m screwed.”

Met Their Match 2/2

This was a collaboration between me and @dimensionhoppingrose, and was inspired by this post by @tinyconfusion.
Ten x Rose AU
At the insistence of his sister, James Noble stops by Rose Tyler’s shop, but what he doesn’t know is that Rose runs a matchmaking business. While Rose tries to match him with a perfect partner, James starts to realize he’s falling for the woman who is trying to set him up on a date with other women.
Part 1AO3

She felt like someone had knocked all the wind out of her when she saw he had agreed to a second date.

Oh.

The world seemed to spin for a moment as Rose stared blankly at the email, blinking back tears. This was supposed to be a good thing. A second date was brilliant, right? It meant he had finally found a match.

And it wasn’t her.

Rose didn’t even bother emailing either of them back; they could arrange another date without her help. She just closed her laptop and threw it aside before she curled around a throw pillow and buried her face in the fabric.

So stupid. She never should have gotten her hopes up. When she’d first started her business, she swore she would never let her personal feelings get in the way of making a match, and above all, she swore she would never ever fall for a client. Look how well that worked…

John: 16

Rose: 14

Warning: Body image issues

God, why can’t you lose weight? The voice in the back of Rose’s head — the one that wasn’t John, the one John didn’t know about — taunted Rose as she stared dismally the scale she was standing on. She hadn’t lost any weight the last couple of weeks. How was that even possible? She’d been eating nothing but healthy food and she was running every single day. What more did she need to do?

What’s wrong? John broke Rose out of her melancholy thoughts, and she quickly stepped off the scale, grabbing a towel so she could finish drying off from her shower.

Nothing’s wrong.

You seem upset. He could always feel when she was upset. It made Rose a little nervous.

Just tired. Long day. Don’t think I did well on that science test.

Really? I’m sorry. I’ll try to help you study more next time, John promised. You just seemed like you really had it down.

Yeah. It’s alright. It’s just one test, not a huge deal. Rose finished drying off and put on her robe so she could get to her room and change. She really needed to take some time to practice tonight, her last band rehearsal had been awful. It just felt like she didn’t have time for music anymore. She was spending a lot of time running, and she had homework, and her family always seemed to have something going on…

Tonight was a blissfully quiet night. Jackie and Pete were out, leaving Tony and Rose on their own (or as on their own as they could be with an entire staff of people). They’d let the cooks go home early and the kids order a pizza, which Rose had let Tony have most of. There were way too many calories in pizza, and she was having a hard enough time losing weight as it was.

And yet her stomach was still growling loudly as she changed into her pajamas and got out her flute, putting it together so she could try and get a little practice in. She was so tired, and her bed looked so inviting…

Half an hour of practice, she told herself. Then you can go to bed.

The Little Version of You

Pairing: Tentoo x Rose Rating: Teen Words: 2250 Beta: Amazing @doctortenny  A/N: Sooo, this is my @dwsecretsanta gift for @whoinwhoville. You asked for a Tentoo x Rose fic, where Rose was pregnant on BWB, had a kid and where Tentoo was freeking out about being a dad. I’m not sure if I managed to do it excatly like you wished, but I really hope you will enjoy it. Have a brilliant December and Merry Christmas! :3

“There’s five of us now. Mum, dad, Mickey… and the baby.” Rose said to the Doctor’s hologram on the worst day of her life.

His eyes got wide and his voice got quieter. “You’re not…?”

“No,” she laughed. She had to act. She couldn’t tell him. Rose knew that if she’d told him that she was pregnant with his child, nothing would have stopped him from coming and getting them, but it was impossible. And the other universe needed him. No matter how much she needed him, the other worlds and living things needed him more, and he had to be in the best shape possible. So, she lied. “It’s mum.” The Doctor laughed with relief and looked over at Jackie. It’s better that way - she lied again, to herself this time.

Nine/Rose, apple grass :)

Avatar

Rose stepped out of the TARDIS and twirled as she took in the empty meadow they had landed in. The bright green grass was dotted with brightly colored flowers and the sky was almost blindingly blue.

It was all perfect.

Then the Doctor stepped up beside her and slipped his callused hand in hers and it somehow got even better.

“So go on then,” she said, nudging his leather-clad shoulder with her own shoulder and shooting him a tongue touched smile, “tell us about where we are.”

He tugged her into motion, walking further into the meadow. “It’s a planet that will one day be a home to the future of the human race. They name it New Earth.”

“Original,” Rose snorted.

“Your species always is,” the Doctor deadpanned.

“So, I take it they haven’t colonized yet, then?”

“Nope. There’s some indigenous peoples on the planet right now but they’re mostly in the southern hemisphere and they’ll have died out before the humans arrive.”

“Is it safe to sit?” Rose asked. “The grass looks heavenly.”

“Would I take you somewhere with dangerous grass?”

Rose opened her mouth and the Doctor hurriedly cut her off. “Fine, yes the grass is safe.”

They both took a seat and he continued talking. “It’s actually called apple grass,” he offered. “One of the best features of this planet, in my opinion.”

“Oh! That smell’s the grass?”

“Yep.”

“That’s brilliant!”

The Doctor smiled softly as she leaned over and sniffed the grass. Seeing the universe through her eyes always made him appreciate it all again.

Rose flopped down on her back, the motion releasing a strong wave of apple scent as she flattened a section of the grass. She started giggling and the Doctor’s smile morphed into a grin as he stretched out beside her, content to spend a day lolling around in the apple grass with his precious girl.

Happy GRAD-uation James! I’m so proud of you!

James grinned at his arm as he swung his tassel around on his finger. He was in the car with his parents, having just gotten out of his graduation ceremony, and they were about to go out for a celebratory dinner.

“Thanks!” James wrote. “Now for a month’s break before my Master’s program—”

The car abruptly decelerated, sending James jolting forward and creating a long smear of ink on his forearm.

A car horn blared and James looked up to see another car was about in inch in front of theirs, having tried to make a cross-lane turn despite not having the right-of-way.

“Everyone okay?” his dad asked a little tightly, his arm still thrown out in front of Vera’s chest.
