A little story about the famous coconut trees of Palm Beach, Florida—Here before any of the hotels, restaurants or estates, the coconuts washed ashore during a shipwreck in 1878. A trade ship called the Providencia was traveling from Havana to Cádiz, Spain with a cargo of coconuts harvested on the Caribbean island nation of Trinidad & Tobago, and after sinking just off the coast, thousands of coconuts appeared on the beach and were soon planted everywhere in an attempt to create a new industry in what was a swampy little settlement. Seeing as we haven’t been able to drive the though the Washington Square Arch since the 50s, I’m glad the peeps of Greenwich Village have put the monument to good use for the holidays! A view of the Christmas lights at the McGraw Hill building on 6th Avenue at the centre of #SkyscraperAlley in Midtown New York. This building has been in a ton of movies—most notably Network & The Devil Wears Prada—but whenever I pass it, I think of the insane 1999 elevator “incident” in which a Business Week employee was trapped in an elevator for 41 hours before anyone noticed🙃. Central Park in late fall, when all the tourists have left, is when it’s most breathtaking. There are places further north, away from the avenues, where you can be completely alone, without a single person in sight. Solitude is such a luxury in the city. The elevated subway lines in Brooklyn and Queens are some of the realest #NewYorkCity looking places I can think of. They belong to the kind of NYC you imagine in your mind before arriving, but in reality, they’re just as cinematic and special. About 10 years ago I looked at an apartment facing directly onto the JMZ line in South Williamsburg (pictured here) and I think the rent was something like $950 a month. I’m sure it would be twice as much now but it was a bargain at the time because of the noise...
