the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belonging, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.

beyond that the columbia common is literally an open space during the day; the gates are open and it's possible to pass through it like you'd pass through a regular block. even after my student ID expired i was still able to walk through the commons bc ID is not requested until you enter an actual building. it's quite common to see parents, toddlers, and such who are clearly not enrolled just hanging out. so not only were the students not trespassing at a SCHOOL THEY PAY FOR, there was also not a precedent for non-students to be disallowed from the grass and walkways.

Have u heard about the flotillas departing now/soon for palestine

yes!!! i think everyone should learn about the freedom flotilla, which is setting sail for gaza very soon and needs to have eyes and ears on it, as israel has a long history of attacking, raiding and occaisonally killing humanitarian workers on aid ships to gaza, as they did in 2010 with the first freedom flotilla (because that's how long Gaza has been under siege)

here's an interview with journalist and lawyer dylan saba, who is setting sail on it and is a good person to follow to learn more about it:

and this is their website:

remember to follow and check #freedomflotilla on twitter in the coming days.

the stuff going on at columbia campus rn is genuinely incredible

despite mass arrests by NYPD and several students (including rep ilhan omar’s daughter, isra hirsi) being suspended for their participation and having their university identification deactivated, the gaza solidarity encampment is still going strong well into its second day. def recommend following independent reporter talia jane who is taking part and providing live updates. (talia was the first reporter to break aaron bushnell’s self immolation in february; she was one of the reporters he contacted personally prior to the protest.)

thank you so much alexa @shivsblunt for mentioning it…..anyone who wants to contribute to their jail support fund can do so @ bcabolitioncollective on v*nmo. also, if anyone is in the area and available to join (via cssw4palestine on ig):

iran's retaliatory attack comes after israel bombed the iranian embassy in syria, killing seven. the inviolability of diplomats and the extraterritoriality of their property is the fundamental basis on which any kind of diplomacy operates: it was international law for thousands of years before international law existed, it has been respected by the most disgusting regimes in existence (e.g. both the soviets and the nazis deported each other's diplomatic missions, killing none), any transgressions have always been the blackest stain on the violator. a few days after israel's attack, ecuador raided the mexican embassy in quito to arrest the former vice president, who had been given protection by mexico. that a state-on-state attack on an embassy occurred is horrific enough, pointing to the rabid, brutal, rogue nature of the israeli state; that two happened within a week is a dire signal. we live in a much more stupid, dangerous, violent world
