Captain America is anti-war and vocal about it and he’s The Bane of the US military’s existence but they can’t fuckin DO anything bc…. he’s the poster boy of America I mean what are they gonna say?? They MADE this irritating asshole

The toughest thing about the shield was making it believable that this guy could throw this thing, have it bounce off something and take some guy out and have it come back to him. We tried some practical stuff where he’s throwing a rubber shield. Nothing worked until we handed it over Chris Evans basically until we said, “Okay, you’ve got this shield. that’s this wide, and weight this much. what would you do? how would you throw it?” And he came up with some really interesting ways of doing it. and he had nothing in his hands. He’s just miming the action. It was basically Chris Evans’ ability to mime throwing and catching that shield that made it work. - Dir. The fact that this fandom can’t see Steve putting his own needs and wants first as a good thing, but rather an insult to his friends is the picture of entitlement and hypocrisy. To have a character (whom you supposedly like) who has been through horrifying events and who has always put the collective good before his own desires (to the point that he doesn’t even know what makes him happy or if he can be someone without a war) finally take a step back and choose what makes him happy should be seen as a good thing. Selfishness in kind, selfless people is good, and it is needed, otherwise that same selflessness becomes redundant and hinders character progress. Or worse, it ends up swallowing them. A character like who started out as a self-centered, arrogant asshole needs to develop selflessness in order to grow and become likeable, but Steve? He already was a kind man who would sacrifice himself for others! His journey shouldn’t be seen like “Steve becoming a selfish asshole”; but rather a result of Steve, for the first time in years, putting himself first and asking, what makes me happy? going for it and getting to keep his happy ending.

Fandom knows this. Fandom knows that Steve is good, and selfless and that he more than earned a break. Pre-endgame, it seemed it was all people wanted for him: survive, give up the shield and find a new path in life. When he did though, both in the five years post-snap, and in the epilogue, most fans turned on him and couldn’t stop frothing at the mouth because in both instances the writers did not follow what the fans already planned for him and because, for no apparent reason, fandom decided that he abandoned Natasha, or Bucky, or Sam. Thus putting other characters’ priorities before Steve’s again. The hypocrisy of it all is astounding.

And as for friendships, let’s be clear here: supporting friends makes a huge impact on one’s mental wellbeing but it is a. a two way street and b. not the magical cure for ptsd, depression and all that fun, fun stuff. You might be afraid or unable to reach out and a friend helping is usually never enough. It hasn’t been for Bucky, who chose to get (professional) help from Wakanda and then refused to get back into fighting, and I fail to see how that would’ve been enough for Wanda’s immense grief. To think that Steve being there would’ve been such a pivotal change or to expect Steve to put his own wants on hold (again) for somebody else means to grossly underestimate other characters’ grief and struggles. Not to mention, it still puts other people’s issues before Steve’s own which is what we’ve seen since the get go.

So, like. It is utterly unsurprising to see that Wanda has now joined the ranks of the ‘People with trauma Steve should’ve been there for, but didn’t, so he deserves to be dunked on for eternity’. But by God, is it still annoying as fuck to see. It is grossly entitled, hypocritical and underplays both friendships and mental health issues, and I’m sick to see people think it’s either out of character or selfish in a malicious way.

I agree with all of the above

Steve Rogers is Worthy

I want everyone to know this

Anthony Russo detailed on Reddit that Captain America “always could” pick up Mjolnir, and realized that in Age of Ultron. The reason why he didn’t go through with lifting the hammer upon that revelation was because he wanted to spare Thor any embarrassment.
As Anthony explained, “Our interpretation of the famous scene in Ultron was that when he realized he could pick up Mjolnir he quickly chose not to, because he didn’t want to embarrass Thor.”

Steve was always able to lift Mjolnir✨

Me and plenty of other people have assumed that of this scene already; Steve could lift it. The hammer moved in his grip, and you immediately see him adjusting and stopping his pull. His fingers slide but then stop. There is no way Steve didn’t feel the hammer move, he’s focused and he has enhanced senses. He knew the hammer moved, and he stopped right away.

Also, look at this:

ImageImage

This looks like the face of a dad who pretended to lose an arm wrestle match with his child. The smile, the raised arms, the attitude like “Whelp sport, couldn’t win from you there :))”

Age of Ultron did some wrong things with Steve’s character, but they also did things right. Not just the vision Wanda gave him, or his twitchy behavior around “home”, but this too, helping his friend out and holding back.

Thor’s drunk, he’s in a mood to boast a little and challenge his friends, he bet Asgard’s throne on this. Steve knows if he lifts it now it’ll just be embarrassing for everyone, so he puts up a nice little act and makes a funny little joke out of it to keep everything light and nice.

But of course just being worthy wasn’t enough, the absolute QUEEN ran head first into battle, Mjolnir in hand, flashing lightning and hurling his half-broken shield, and then he went ahead and casually lifted and used Stormbreaker

He actually summoned the ax to his hand and used it.

Mind you, that though Stormbreaker doesn’t have a spell that keeps the unworthy from lifting her, that doesn’t mean just anyone can pick her up. In Infinity War, we were told:

Eitri: A king’s weapon. Meant to be the greatest in Asgard. In theory, it could even summon the Bifrost.

And earlier in a conversation with Thor and the Guardians:

Star-Lord: Don’t you think that we should all have a weapon like that?
Thor: No. You simply lack the strength to wield them. Your bodies would crumble as your minds collapsed into madness.

And yet, Steve used it in battle without a problem.

So anyway, Steve Rogers is worthy, and he has the physical and mental strength to wield Stormbreaker in battle.

I love this guy.

I’m pretty sure I just lost my last inch of respect for the extremely anti-endgame Steve crowd. I literally just can’t take it anymore.

Like, FINE, you’re absolutely allowed to hate the last 5 minutes of his character from a movie that came out 2 years ago, but for the love of god that’s such a lame excuse. ‘hE aBaNdOnEd eVeRyOnE wHeN tHeY nEeDeD hiM mOsT!’ Um.. he retired? And left the shield in the hands of one of his most trusted friends and teammates?? Because he’s been putting others before himself since 1943? That’s a bad thing? For Sam, Bucky and Wanda it’s only been a few days, but for Steve it was five years. Five goddamn years with nobody but Natasha. That would send anybody into a depressive spiral, and Steve’s mental health sure as hell plummeted during those five years. But you know what he and Natasha were doing during those five years? Actually trying to help. Steve is the only one who visits Natasha at all, while the other OG Avengers don’t do anything. And Steve is the selfish one??

You can see his decision as selfish, sure. But after all that, he deserves to be selfish once. You can see his decision as out of character, but then that is solemnly on the writers and directors of Endgame. Don’t blame Steve.

And stay the fuck away from the ‘falcon and the winter soldier’ tag.

By his body’s clock, there’s been less than five years from the beginning until now, from knit top to body armor, from showgirl to warrior of legend, from Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) to Captain America (aka Steve Rogers). He’s barely thirty, which nobody seems to realize or remember. It’s just as well because sometimes he feels all of the ninety-six years the calendar gives him. Never more so than when he looks at the photos and rare scraps of video from before, when he can see how much the transition has cost him and how much of it he paid even before Bucky fell. He never meant for war to become his life, let alone the only thing he understood. And yet it has.

Europeans really seem to not acknowledge that their lives are ACTIVELY like currently the results of colonial spoils and the comforts they enjoy, the basics of their standards of living, the foundations of their societies and lifestyles are tied to a historic AND ongoing set of colonial relationships
