Okay so I've gotten a lot of feedback regarding the Maleficent pairing and while I'm not out to argue with anyone, some of the feedback I've received has made me outright confused as to what people are expecting with this fan pairing.
Biggest point of contention was the gene & color combination. (Obsidian Metallic/Radioactive Bee-Shimmer/Purple Underbelly.) People wanted tertiaries like Flecks or Ghost…
When that doesn't match Maleficent's dragon design. (Big, long, black-as-night western style dragon with translucent wings and a purple underbelly.)
"So why are the wings radioactive green then?" Because that's the color (along with purple) that's associated with the character:
Granted, her purple is more of a Plum, but that color combination was impossible to find at the time (2019-2020.) I can work on this for future iterations of the pair.
I do have other reasons why I chose Radioactive and Bee. Not only is Bee translucent like her wings are in canon, but she also teleports, threatens & transforms via bright green flame:
She also breathes (technically) green fire. though it does look yellow in some shots:
The other color choices I could've chosen from the movie were Lemon for the Fire or Olive/Black for wings, which imo, wouldn't look as nice in game and would lead to more confusion as to what/who it's supposed to be.
People also had a point of contention when it came to the species, (Guardian, a plentiful breed) but, again, I have to ask you:
What other species could properly fit Maleficent? Noctune, maybe? Ridgeback?
Granted, those are some really good options that I don't mind changing Malevolent, the male, in to, but Guardian still feels like the most canon accurate, which is the driving force behind all my fan dragons: "How can I make it look as canon accurate as possible?"
As for Mav's shimmer, that was admittedly me trying to save myself 1200g and have a little variety amongst the hatchlings.
That said, it is rather hideous so I'd be open to changing it for next year. Sadly, one of the reasons I stayed with Shim' is because it was the only gene that didn't drastically change the color/appearance with complicated patterns/accent colors.
If I don't make it Bee for him as well, I'm open to Foam as it's both bright, semi-translucent and fits the "witchy" vibes even though Maleficent is more of a demon fairy, let's no split hairs here
So yeah, I'm not sure what people want/need from this pair. The one suggestion to make the next pair the inverse and veilspun...

Gonna make a new google (or maybe even tumblr) poll regarding this pair so I know which direction to take them for next Halloween. I want to thank everyone for their feedback and let you know I'll be making other feedback forms (and some responses like this one) soon.
So I’ve been running a Halloween shop since 2016 called A Spooky Lil Kiosk (ASLK) for short and the TL;DR is simply that I’ve been too sick to do anything about it this year. I’ll hopefully be able to do it next year though.

Figured I’d give an update to this post.
Saw a surgeon, we ran several tests over the course of months, but the tests always came back “within normal range” so it was a matter of “can you live with the pain or not” or more accurately, “do you still want me to take out your gallbladder, even though we have no evidence of anything being wrong with it.” This wasn’t something I was comfortable with doing as I was also told to “trust the scans,” so I did, but as a result, I still can’t eat most of what I used to and my condition remains but is slowly improving.
The surgeon’s personality and mine clashed horribly as well. The only time he was the level of professional I expected was with the results of an MRI I had done at his hospital. Every other time he was deeply sullen or extremely agitated about being on the phone (because someone with phone anxiety was able to get a doctorate...) He was also very immature and jokey which just wasn’t what I needed in my time of crisis. Our “professional” relationship ended abruptly when he lost his temper with me, triggered me into hanging up on him then having him drop me as a patient just because of that.
This was a man I couldn’t raise my voice with even slightly but he could outright yell and silence me in real time and not expect a reaction. Bullet dodged, I suppose.
Either way, my condition has improved to the point where I’m actively working not just on current pairs but new ones. Yes, there will be a shop this year if it KILLS me.
Dunno if it made it to the blog, but that nasty 80m g1 bidding war went from 250g to 22k in like, two hours. Owner’s bein’ coy tho, hopin’ for more bids. smh

I had to look something up yesterday and almost typed “flight rising meat heat” into the search engine. I actually said “no!” out loud.
My friend is really deep into FR. I only just started a few months ago and I don’t play much because of my bust work/school schedule.
We recently got into a fight because I basically copied one of their dragons, as in same breed, genes and color combo. The dragon had a nice poem in their bio, so I wrote a poem similar that was kind of an opposite to the one in the other dragon’s bio. (It was about losing someone, I wrote one about finding someone)
They were understandably uncomfortable with it, especially since I linked their dragon in mine’s bio. Of course I apologized and got rid of the poem and ended up exalting the dragon, but they’re still really mad at me.
I feel bad that I upset them, especially when they explained the dragon was meant to be a digital shrine of sorts to someone who meant a lot to them, which I didn’t know until after we argued about it.
Idk, I just wanted to vent I guess. I know I’m the asshole, I just feel really bad about it all.
...dragons aren't copyrightable... There's nothing wrong with copying/improving on someone else's idea, regardless of status. Now if you did it to undercut their breed shop prices, sure, that's bad but you made some changes and only did it because you liked a thing. There was no malice here and you don't need your friend's permission to do things either so IDK why people are going off. You're good, anon.

You know, if it was any other site, I’d say sure, but it’s FR and they’re awfully corrupt so I’m not sure why you want to lick their boots that badly. Leave the person alone.
you do know that the pixel book library is literally a fundraising program for light dom, just like cats are for ice…. that’s why the artists have to be in light.
So they can’t accept outsider help but can accept outsider money? Seems a smidge hypocritical. That’s like I, as a shadow, shouldn’t ever buy or submit art to a plague funding project because we’re enemies in the (easily ignorable) lore.
Let outsiders contribute to the cause. You’re only hurting yourself by turning them down due to some lore-induced classism/racism.
I legitimately do not understand the whole “FR is not the place for [insert rant about serious topic here]” argument. I fully support the recent mod post in Post Your Current Thought because hardly anyone was using trigger warnings and therefore not giving readers a chance to consent to their content. But the idea that Bad Things Happened to Me and I’m Upset is unacceptable because dragon Neopets should be 100% positive and happy all the time is absurd. Are the mods (and everyone else for that matter) not aware that video games, including FR, handle some serious topics? Is this site not filled with lore, both user-written and canon, about intense events that are more than likely traumatizing? How is that okay but a rant (WITH A PROPER TRIGGER WARNING) with the same content not okay? The no politics/religion rule makes sense as those are both extremely polarizing topics filled with misinformation and hate, but ranting isn’t? I don’t get it. The line between “trauma dumping” and ranting is horrendously fuzzy (IF TRIGGER WARNINGS ARE USED PROPERLY). How can you just deny people an outlet because of some constructed idea that games should be Happy Fun Times Only? “But kids-” kids need outlets too. The proper reaction should have been to add trigger warnings to the rules with clear explanations on how to use them and remove posts without them.
I’m of two minds about this: on the one hand, you’re right, people should be allowed to express they’re having dark thoughts or an emotionally stressful time without getting posts deleted or strikes on their accounts.
On the other: you know the staff ex-nays this because they’re worried about being sued? They can be considered liable if someone “unalives” themselves over FR drama. Plus venting doesn’t help, according to research.
I’m not going to say FR, a site populated by mostly legal adults, isn’t an appropriate place for such discussions. That’s ridiculous, especially given the sites rating. (Bondage and some sexual discussion is considered appropriate for PG13 ratings.)
I think a fair middle ground is to only send verbal warnings and for the site to finally implement spoilers so people can decide whether or not they want to engage with the heavy or not.
Not to toss out a hot take or whatever but the way some FR discords overmoderate what needs to be spoilered makes them genuinely unusable. I have genuine memory issues and if I have one more 15 year old cry at me because I forgot to spoiler violet polyphore or whatever I’m actually going to snap
I hate this rule too. I do it out of respect but I wish I didn’t have to and I suffer from that same phobia made this a rule in the first place. (No I can’t name it and you couldn’t pay me enough to go look it up.)
i do not know why it bothers me so much but it drives me up the fucking wall when people call gembond “gembound”. it is so inconsequential but it just really peeves me
i don’t want to be that guy so i just don’t say anything because it really doesn’t matter but in my brain just like snags onto it like they’re typing the word in all caps or something. girl help
Given the lore, it should be called Gembound (given it’s a supposed to be a curse that eventually takes over the host) but naming things conventionally just isn’t FR’s style
