The Bank Club Wine Collective tasting room has been a wonderful addition to the Guerneville Bank Club group of businesses. The Bank Club Wine Collective is owned by INIZI Wines and Baldassari Family Wines. A.J. and Jen Filipelli & John and Kirsti Harley are the co-founders of INIZI Wines. The name INIZI came from their belief that a bottle of wine begins in the vineyard. Matt Michael and his father Dom Michael started the Baldassari Family Wines brand in 2003 as a tribute to his grandfather.

The former Look Up Gallery space was transformed into a tasting room by Crista Luedtke, owner of boon hotel+spa, boon eat+drink, and el barrio. Her interior design has created a space where folks just want to hang out.

She worked with Thomas Kolonusz-Partee http://tkolonuszpartee.com/home.html to create the brass countertops as well as use the old teller window cages from the original front counters to make shelving for wine glasses. He also made the wall sconces from this material! It was amazing to see the original brass color restored in these metal frames. The brass material almost looks spray-painted except when you look closely you see it’s solid brass.

The wood wine rack and tables were created from reclaimed oak Matt Michael saved from being trashed by a winery! There’s a new banquette in the corner as well as 2 other seating areas. This section of the building is an addition to the building from 1962 constructed over the former bank manager’s parking space.

Although the space’s use has shifted to a tasting room, the Bank Club Wine Collective still wants to maintain gallery space for artists. This summer they are featuring Bianca Kolonusz-Partee  http://bkolonuszpartee.com/section/258687.html. Future programming will include shows curated by the Look Up Gallery and others.

The second exhibit by the Russian River Historical Society is now up at the bank. "Russian River Glory Days: A Tribute to Clare Harris" opened last Friday night and was designed by Alex Clausen.

This very interesting exhibit features amazing insights, memories and photographs from Clare Harris about the Big Band Years on the Russian River. The Harris family owned Johnson’s Beach for over 40 years before selling to its current owners and have a deep history with the area. I met the Harris family last year when they brought by some wonderful historical photographs of the bank to give to me.

I’ve included some of the images from the exhibit to show some of the interesting content and stories. A big thank you to the Russian River Historical Society for such a beautiful exhibit.

I am so honored to receive the Brainerd Jones Preservation Award from the Sonoma County Historical Society for all of the restoration and renovation work on the bank building.

I’d like to thank John Schubert, Jane Barry and the Russian River Historical Society for nominating me, as well as showing me old photos of the building that helped during the restoration. It’s so great having their wonderful exhibit space as a part of the building.

I’d also like to thank the Warnecke family for the beautiful old photos from their archives that also helped in the restoration, as well as the elegant design of the original building by Carl I. Warnecke.

The renovation couldn’t have happened without the help of Crista Luedtke of boon and Big Bottom Market, the Sonoma County Community Development Commission and the Sonoma County Board of Supervisor’s Efren Carrillo. They were all instrumental in this and its process.

I’d like to acknowledge my grandparents who were very involved in historic preservation in my hometown of Camden, SC, as well as thank my mom for my appreciation of history, my fascination with the past and for coming out from South Carolina for this event.

The awards ceremony at the Flamingo Resort in Santa Rosa was very interesting. The program for this year’s annual luncheon was a panel discussion titled “How We Came to Make Such Fine Wines”, telling the story of how Sonoma County wines have become so well known throughout the world.

Michael Topolos, spoke on the history of winemaking in Sonoma County since its beginnings with the mission padres. John Burdock spoke about the evolution of the appellations, terroir, varietals, vintages, marketing and presentation of the fine wines of Sonoma County. Frank Pastori, who worked the vineyards and cellars near Geyserville since Prohibition, talked about the wines of the North County from a personal perspective. George MacLeod spoke about his personal experiences establishing and developing a quality vineyard and winery in Sonoma Valley. George Webber, impersonating Count Agoston Haraszthy de Mokesa of Buena Vista Winery, was the moderator.

It was so wonderful to have @alicesutro pouring Sutro Wine here last night. Her great-grandfather Carl I. Warnecke was the architect of our beautiful building. (at Guerneville Bank Club)
