Shoujoke 101
What is it?
"Shoujokes" is currently a small group/community made up of OCs that are parodies of our past selves. Most if not all of the OCs have quirky nicknames based off of things ranging from drugs, types of drinks, slang terms, and even spices. The community is currently mostly twitter-based.
where did this even come from what
This literally started out as a joke. In a late night skype call between two sleep-deprived people who shared how, as kids, they both had a time where they attempted to change their names (to “Rachel” and “Crystal” respectively). One thing led to the other and the joke OCs “Ratchet-kun” and “Crystal Meth-kun” were born. Their friends also made joke OCs and Shoujokes was created.
The Setting
The idea was that the universe was based on the typical shoujo- which is funny when you look at the characters residing in it. Basically, things that you would commonly find in a shoujo manga/anime can also be found in the Shoujoke universe.
is this about…. drugs…
No. However, basing your shoujoke OCs name off some kind of drug is a current trend. Your OCs name does not have to be based off a drug, though. They could be named anything you want, really. In fact, there are a few OCs whose nicknames are not drug-based (“Bloody Mari”, “Ratchet”, “Vlad”)
Can anyone join?
Anybody can join. In fact, I’m making this post and this blog to make it easier and more accessible if people want to hop on! Feel free to invite friends and have fun together
About making a character
- The theme of shoujoke OCs is that they are parodies/based on how their creators used to be in the past. For example, if you were a shy tsun in middle school, you could make an OC based off that. If you were a bratty toddler, you could use that, too.
- OCs don’t need to be based solely on a single point in your life. You can grab aspects from many parts of your past and combine them.
- They do not have to be named after a drug. But if you want to do that, check this little masterlist to make sure the name isn’t taken ‘v’
- You don’t have to make them a twitter, blog, or anything if you don’t want to. But it’s nice for character interactions and rp!
*Some parts of Shoujokes are still kinda up-in-the-air, so this post will be updated if anything changes! ‘v’
