when i was in 7th grade i had this friend who told everyone that she was in a band and a few of us were like “oh with who??” and she was like “oh you wouldn’t know them, they’re in high school” and we didn’t care because like shit that was so cool like she was in a band AND it was with a bunch of high schoolers??? SHIT THAT’S SO COOL

but eventually some of us were like “we wanna see your band perform” “what kind of songs do you play” “we wanna meet your band” blah blah blah you know all that stuff and she’s all “no we’re all really busy and a lot of our venues are 16+ yadda yadda” and eventually the seed of doubt was planted and some of us were all “i don’t really think she’s in a band”

so she comes to school one day with a whole bunch of CDs and she’s like “we got signed and this is our demo” and hands out the CDs and this fuckin seals it for us like OH SHIT SHE IS IN A BAND AND THIS IS THEIR CD OMG THIS IS SO FUCKING COOL and they sound so professional and some of the songs have a female singer so we all know she’s the one singing them and it’s all hella rad and shit so for the rest of the school year she’s like this middle school idol and then she moves to another school and that’s that

fast forward like 2 years and i find this CD in my collection that’s her band’s demo and i’m like “oh shit imma listen to this” so i shove that sucker in my CD walkman because that’s how i used to fuckin roll and start listening and pretty quickly realized: chick gave us all a mix tape of 2000′s top 40 punk songs and told us it was her band and we bought it like shit, she was good.

and that’s when i learned all you really need to convince a bunch of middle schoolers you’re a rock star is a solid story and a good mix tape
