abstract and modern art haters are sooo snobby like klein literally Created an entirely new pigment and then painted a canvas in a way where the brush strokes wouldn't be visible. the insinuation that people with no skill could reproduce that is so annoying because unless you are skilled at color mixing and painting you definitely couldn’t lmao
i hope it's okay to add this because i think it hits the nail directly on the head
Honestly, it's like picking up a book and saying "I know all these words, I can type, I could have written this" like there's no middle step between the technical ability and the finished work.
taylor swift’s work wouldn’t be nearly as insufferable if she wasn’t constantly trying to present herself as some sort of tortured underdog. like, okay, she has endured hardships, and a lot of people, especially white men, are shitty towards her for purely misogynistic reasons. that sucks, i agree. but she’s never been an underdog before. she was born to well-off parents who did everything they could to start her music career when she was barely even a teenager, an opportunity that lots of people would kill for. now she’s extremely famous and wealthy, and everything she releases is destined to sell millions of copies and receive glowing reviews in nearly every publication. she is not an underdog, and i have trouble believing she’s particularly “tortured.” she’s not even an alcoholic, despite claiming to be one on the opening track of her new album! people like to defend her lyrics by saying she’s just playing a character, which i don’t believe for a second, but even if she was, i don’t think i want to listen to someone like swift play the character of a tortured underdog, not when there’s so many musicians out there who are actually tortured underdogs. it comes across as hollow. “you wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” sung by one of the wealthiest, most famous, most critically acclaimed musicians in the world, who was born to loving parents who personally helped her start her career, who once said she’d never been to therapy because she “just feels very sane.” if you’re going to play a character, maybe pick one who we’re not supposed to pity.
you have to think, if she's dated all these men and they all end catastrophically - maybe, just maybe, she's the problem some of the time
like I'm with Fiona Apple here, "I could liken you to a werewolf the way you left me for dead, but I admit I provided a full moon"
the artists, primarily female artists, often hit a nerve by being vulnerable, and Swift never strikes me as that, you never hear her going something like "the reason we fell apart was because my job takes me all over the world and you felt i couldn't make time for you" which is a fair vulnerability for her, caught between romance and her obligation to her fans,
when Joan Armatrading wrote the Weakness in Me the thing she struggled with in the song was her attraction to another woman when she was already in a happy relationship - she asks the new woman is the weakness in me? are you exploiting it or am I flawed? and we can understand that better than another white girl singing another song about being dumped, and that song is nearly ten years older than swift herself
songs last because the story they tell is timeless, because we feel the way they felt and know others will feel that too,
Jolene was written to another woman, stand by your man was written because there was no alternative to doing that, Carly Simon was so angry at being discarded her accusations of his vanity mean the song is remembered before he is
swift hasn't written one of those songs, she might, but she needs to look inward instead of finding someone else to blame
and you know the worst thing - Ryan Adams [prick] did a cover of Swift's 1988 album, he rearranged it as if HE had written the songs because he wanted to prove her album had good bones and people could enjoy it - ie look i can do this because she did that
his version of Style sounds like a young bruce springsteen, it's really good, and all he did was rearrange it - there is so much potential but its buried in mediocrity and self pity and unless that appears on a crow soundtrack it doesn't have a place in my playlist
also while i'm at it it's interesting how people will call any weird behaviour they don't personally like "attention seeking" as though that's supposed to invalidate it and act as a moral judgement that reflects badly on your Character rather than just being an unavoidable side effect of being a human being. everyone is attention seeking dipshit it came free with being a fucking social species.
and it's also really funny and extremely obvious how it's only "attention seeking" when you find the person performing the behaviour themselves objectionable. otherwise it's "cool" and "funny" and "so real".

I need a way to say this character makes me feel insane amounts of lust but not in a sexual or romantic way
Guards, dissect this man
No it's too clinical I need something that emphasizes the feral desire to devour
Guards, sous vide this man
Guards, prepare this man for dinner
Guards, rend this man asunder
Guards, hand this man's heart to me on a platter so that I may devour him
Guards, resurrect him I didn't like that last phrasing
my liege is everything okay in there
Leave me be I'm trying to figure out how to metaphorically cannibalize someone
