A few recent experiments with digital color.
A few recent warmup paintings. Trying to gradually work traditional color back into my toolbox.
Ink warmups from the last few months, both Inktober and otherwise.
I've been collaborating a bunch this last year with my friend and amazing photographer Sarah Bowman. We both share a similar appreciation for the same subjects and aesthetic value. Working with her totally got me through a rough batch of artist's block, and I will share her work every chance I get in hopes of repaying the favor. Swing by her Instagram account @edenanddagger and on Facebook at Facebook.com/bowmanimages
Miscellaneous drawings from INKTOBER 2017. Each drawing is stamped with the date, and specific prompts were followed each day. Go to my Instagram feed for the whole lot @workweak
October was a busy month for fliers and posters. I did the posters for Signal Kitchen's Halloween events, a killer Halloween party, the Infra-Men's annual movie screening, a haunted house, and a couple random shows around the Burlington, VT area. October is my favorite month for a ton of reasons. All the fun clients are one of the things I always look forward to.
"Sabbat" I have been slacking pretty hard with updating my tumblr. I usually focus more on Instagram and Facebook. Hit up my bio for links to those places and my Etsy shop. This was a gallery piece for a show a while back at Eridanos tattoo in Cambridge, MA
"The walls are always freezing, I don't dare touch the door. I met the devil twice, I don't want to see him anymore." -OSRS. Trying out some different techniques for coloring this mountain of ink drawings I've got on my hands. Also, I haven't updated my tumblr in ages. I'm going to try and be more regular with updates, but if you want to see all the art I've been making since my last post then swing by Instagram @workweak and see what's up.
I just finished up this long overdue commission for a friend. The only prompt I was given was "make it look like your version of a ZZ Top music video. Make sure it has two girls, a car, and a telecaster." Apparently this is what it would look like if Billy Gibbons and the boys put me to work. 11"x17" Mixed media on illustration board.
"The Half Blood Prince" This morning's warm up drawing, done as a tribute to Alan Rickman. Snape was always my favorite character from Harry Potter (sometimes heroes dress in black and have skull tattoos), and he portrayed him perfectly. RIP dude. Your scowl will be missed.
"Empress Rising" Another collaborative effort with photographer Sarah Bowman (www.facebook.com/bowmanimages) inspired by the Monolord record of the same name. I have some more experiments blending Sarah's photography and my hand drawn illustrations on www.facebook.com/davemahanillustrator and Instagram @workweak
"The Veil" part one of a collaboration with photographer Sarah Bowman. Be sure to check out her work at www.facebook.com/bowmanimages if you have not done so already.

I'm sitting here watching spooky movies and banging out some quick drawings before work. There's a chill in the air, but I still have the window open and it smells like my neighbor is having a fire. I know some people prefer the Summer to the Autumn, but I'm not really sure why. Also, I would like to remind you all that the pre-order for my Wickerman shirt (and all variations) will only be up until September 30. Be sure to pre-order to get the size you want, and if you order one of the other packages (HARVEST and LORD SUMMERISLE) you get an exclusive print and original drawing depending on the pack. All versions can be found on davemahan.bigcartel.com
Happy first day of Autumn! Here's a quick little Ghost Pumpkin drawing I banged out today in between some illustration jobs. The first day of fall is a good time to reflect on the past year and make plans for the coming months. Over the next few weeks I will have some new projects rolling out, and some killer new merch (pins, patches, stickers, prints, etc...). In fact, I just posted the pre-order for my Wickerman shirt on davemahan.bigcartel.com . Stay tuned for more info about the other merch, and as always thanks again to everyone who continues to support my work.
The Pre-order for my Wickerman shirt is now live over on davemahan.bigcartel.com. It is available in 3 versions: the shirt by itself for $18; the HARVEST PACK which includes the shirt, a print of my "Witch's Vase" illustration, and a copy of my INKTOBER 2014 zine for $30; and the LORD SUMMERISLE PACK which includes everything from the HARVEST PACK plus an original 5" x 7" ink drawing for $50. Swing by the site for images of everything.
"Nosferatu 2015" (September 2015) I have a long history with The INFRA-MEN, and it all stems back to a movie screening poster I did for them a few years back for Nosferatu with an original soundtrack performed live by them. I would eventually do 3 more movie screening posters (Night of the Living Dead, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, and The Phantom of the Opera), and a couple album covers for them. They are always a pleasure to work for, and every project feels like a true collaboration. You can imagine how psyched I was to hear that they were reimagining their original Nosferatu soundtrack and performing it live at the Cape Cinema the night before Halloween this year. If you are able to make it I highly suggest you see them do a live performance of one of their original soundtracks to classic horror movies. They are not something to miss. Thanks for always giving me fun projects to work on, guys.
