Ask box is open, but no anons, ever. Tell me if you want a private answer. I attempt to answer all respectful asks, but am FREQUENTLY unable to due to volume and my other commitments.
Feel free to remind me if I miss your message.
If you ask something so sweeping in scope that to properly answer it would require writing a book, I will probably just refer you to a book that's already been written.

it’s funny and all but it’s also an example of how corporations will cheat people in every single possible way they are legally able to get away with if there isn’t any system of regulation to protect consumers.

Y’all want to hate on the government, but regulation stops shit like this from happening.

Well... Regulations COULD, hypothetically, stop shit like this from happening. But we're all on a post that demonstrably proves that it's happening. And that's because there's a very thin grey line between corporations and government under capitalism. So maybe not the best argument for government in any general sense.

Ya know often I disagree with the logic behind why Catholics oppose certain things (like prostitution) even if I agree with the outcome but like…this is pretty spot on actually.

Too bad he can't take that idea to its logical conclusion that forcing someone to carry a pregnancy they don't want or can't support is also a violation of the dignity of mother and child.

I have no idea what this boop stuff is about but I can't help but notice ONCE AGAIN that it appears to have NOTHING to do with cockatiels and I just don't know how much longer you people expect the cockatiel community to sit idly by while they are erased, ignored, and genocided.

Freddie Mercury was the only man in history who looked good with a mustache. No I will not be taking any questions.

when I was at michfest, some kind of bug got me on the forehead. I've never known what it was. I've never had a bug bite or sting like that before or since. the mystery plagues me to this day.

here's what I remember about the experience, and part of why it's such a mystery. we had set up our tent on top of a nest of ground-nesting bees. in the middle of the night.

so the air was full of angry bees. but I'm almost certain that whatever got me was not a bee, for several reasons. first, ground bees are super docile. nobody else got stung. and I was farther away than everybody else. second, whatever it was felt and sounded larger than the bees that were buzzing around. and third... I don't think bees don't attack like that.

whatever it was took a kamikaze dive directly into my forehead at high speed. it felt like somebody had thrown a rock at me. it was quick and intense. the bug backed up when I flinched away, and it sounded and felt like it was trying to come in for a second attack when I, ahem, calmly and quietly removed myself from the situation. bees don't attack twice. they can't.

the bite/sting/whatever was pretty uncomfortable, but it wasn't the burning pain of a red wasp sting. it wasn't pleasant, but that pain is unique. it stung, but not like that. it was mostly just really sore, like a bruise, and kind of itchy. and then it swelled up like a damn golf ball for a few days.

somebody suggested it might have been a horsefly, and... I guess? I've never been bitten by a horsefly before or since. but I still don't know what got me that night.

Fucking hell that's a blast from the past. God. Memories. I never could have imagined how things would end up between that group of us but I'm grateful to still be in contact with you even from afar.

I've had michfest and yall on the brain lately. I can't believe how long it's been.

Losing Rachel was the hardest thing I've ever been through but I wouldn't give up what we had in Michigan for anything. You will always be my niece in my heart.

Has anyone been involved with wolf (women's liberation front) who would be willing to discuss that? It's been a while since I paid any attention to them but I have a vague memory that there was a reason to be cautious about them.

I achieved my dream of owning a saltwater aquarium and what I found is that owning a saltwater aquarium is just a series of finding weird ass creatures in your tank that even Sir David Attenborough has never seen before and when you post on the groups about it everyone's just like: "weird! I found a brain eating alien worm in my tank once! Cool, right?"

I remain absolutely astounded by how disposable friendships can be to some people. You get one god-damned whirl around this rock, it's brutal in various ways more often than not, and they want to throw away one of the few fucking flickers of light we sad sacks of shit get? I'd say they should be ashamed but from personal experience I can say that the regret is punishment enough.

Anonymous asked:

Not to bring up dog discourse AGAIn but do you acknowledge that anti pitbull sentiment is super common among white supremacists and has been used as a racist dogwhistle (pun not intentional) for decades?

You know, I've seen people make that claim before. I've never actually seen any evidence of it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, of course.

On the other hand, the ADL's library of hate symbols literally has an entry on the use of pit bull imagery by white supremacist groups, especially racist skinhead groups - including one white supremacist group who used the pit bull as their logo. There are a lot of ties between dogfighting and white supremacist gangs. (As well as all other kinds of gangs.)

There are a lot of different kinds of white supremacists and they all hate each other. So I'm sure there are some who use that kind of rhetoric (and also hate the pro-pit bull racists). But it's not really accurate to say that anti-pit bull sentiment is a white supremacist thing.

Avatar

Yeah it's not common in general anti pitbull spaces. If it exists at all, it's something you'd have to go looking for.

On the other hand, trying to equate anti pitbull sentiment to racism IS a long-standing pro pit talking point, and I shouldn't have to point out how precariously close it is to equating POC (esp Black people) with dogs.

as a person who is in a country where it's considered weird for a woman to not have makeup on, pleaseee i need data i need to know the global average

bonus points if you tell what the average is in your country/region in the tags!

There's no "literally never" choice.

"Mostly never" I have literally never worn make up in my entire life where the fuck is my poll choice this site allows up to ten choices c'mon now

Yeah it's incredibly telling that the idea that a woman just doesn't wear makeup is something that just genuinely would not occur to someone, even in this context.
