This is Me, Signing Off

I have found my new identity and this is no longer my home.

This blog and all of the sides, will run out of queues and be abandoned to the vast space of forgotten social interactions.

If you know me well and have been a part of that journey, you will find me there. You can join me on the next path or fall to the wayside. I appreciate you letting me lean upon your shoulders as I shot for the moon, and landed amongst the stars.

Farewell good friends, the journey has been not kind. But we soldier forth, in hopes of softer rays.

If you're seeing this then the queue has finished. I am gone.

Chicken Breeds: La Fleche

The La Fleche originates from a village east of Paris, Le Mans; spreading to Mizeray and La Fleche, the town it was named after. This fowl has many pseudonyms, such as “satan’s fowl”, “devil bird” or “Fowl of Le Mans”. The La Fleche came to the United States around the mid-1800’s, however, they did not take to the rough terrain and were not that hardy so their numbers dwindled while farmers looked to other new breeds. Its now considered critically endangered by The Livestock Conservancy.

The La Fleche has very specific features that make it stand out. The fowl has red wattles with white earlobes. It also possess a v-shaped comb that appears in the shape of an arrow, which accounts for its name, “La Fleche” or “the Arrow”.

Japanese tea bag maker Ocean-Teabag has been making waves by creating little parcels of aroma in the shape of marine animals. Luckily for us, their wide range of tea bags are available at online Japanese novelty retailer Village Vanguard, maker of such fine products as Space Tea and cat-shaped kitchen utensils.

Ocean-Teabag’s earliest designs included beautiful dolphin tea bags filled with blue mallow tea leaves. Steeping them turns your otherwise normal pot of water into a tranquil ocean. Proving to be a hit among tea lovers, Ocean-Teabag expanded their repertoire to many other sea creatures including the sea turtle (butterfly pea jasmine tea)…

the distinctive ocean sunfish (Japanese hojicha — roasted green tea)…

the graceful manta ray (tropical mango tea)…

and even a blood-thirsty shark (blended herb tea).

The newest addition to their robust series of marine creatures is a tea bag shaped like an innocuous sea cucumber. This little parcel is filled with jasmine tea, as well as a smidgen of sea cucumber powder to lend some authenticity. Ocean-Teabag warns that some people who have a sensitive tongue may find it tasting a little fishy.

The company also crafted a deep sea series that will satisfy even the most adventurous of tea drinkers out there. A few such examples are the anglerfish (earl grey tea)…

the creepy giant isopod (Eastern Beauty oolong tea)…

the horseshoe crab (white apricot tea)…

…and lastly the king of them all, the enormous giant oarfish. ( Delicious Assam tea of epic proportions! ) Just like its namesake, it measures a whopping 19 centimeters (7.5 inches). Drinking tea becomes an art when half of your tea bag hangs out of your cup.

While the notion of turning your cup of tea into fish-inhabiting waters is not new, these tea bags will hopefully conjure up images of gentle ocean waves in your mind.

We recently purchased a whole bunch of gorgeous grape agate from Indonesia. I saw this large, carved piece and thought it was so cool looking that I couldn’t help myself and purchased it too. It is a large, 12.3" wide cluster of Indonesian grape agate that has been hand-carved by local craftsmen. Four skulls have been carved into the piece, and the unpolished portion shows the natural, botryoidal grape agate. Much of the grape agate is covered in micro-quartz crystals giving the spheres a very sparkly appearance. The base of this sculpture is flat, allowing for aesthetic presentation without the need for a stand. A really one of a kind display piece, that took countless hours of work to create.

slavic forests are actually located in another dimension

if you’ve ever been in one of the great forests in a slavic country you’ll know that there’s a point where the trees grow so densely packed that the air is completely still and it’s so silent you could hear a pin drop a mile away and you suddenly become uncomfortably aware of the sound of your own heartbeat and the knowledge that the trees surrounding you are alive and just as aware of your presence as you are of theirs, and that’s when you know you’ve crossed into a different realm

there’s that moment when you actually feel how your ancestors used to worship old gods there and treat nature as part of their spiritual world and you’ll know that those old trees have seen empires rise and all, they’ve seen people forget the power in nature and yet they stand there, proud and old, with history etched into their bark, roots back in the times where there used to be prayers sang in the forests
