Hi! I’m getting into bookbinding fanfiction, and I’m head over heels for The Rouge King. Would it be okay with you if I made a handbound copy for myself? I’d be happy to make one for you as well, if you want. Thanks!

Love how throughout S1, Ed is flirting sexually and Stede is flirting romantically and neither of them Gets It, because Ed thinks he’s unlovable and Stede thinks he’s undesirable. When you realize their infatuations run in parallel lines, you understand how sudden the collision must have been and why the impact made them stagger the way they did.

obsessed with this quote from Taika: Throughout the shoot, “we improvised little touches on each other’s shoulders, little tugging on each other’s sleeves,” he says. Some of it was even out of frame, but I do think it reads.” (x)

because, apart from the confirmation that their little touches were all acting choices (so sexy of them, love that), i just know that one of the out of frame touches is this one

he’s fondling that man’s leg and no one can convince me otherwise

I just love love love this scene. Jonathan’s shaving and the count is just standing there like 🧍 (in his bathroom?!?!? Why the fuck is the count hanging out in Jonathan’s bathroom??? Maybe bc he’s doing maid service and wasn’t expecting Jonathan to wake up so soon) and Jonathan here is fucking jumpscared bc he can’t see the count in the mirror and then he fucking cuts himself and Dracula does like. A jasper from twilight wherein he sees the blood and LOSES it and just GRABS JONATHANS NECK and Jon is like uhm-! BUT THEN Dracula touched the crucifix and is like. Shocked back to reality like one of those spray shock collars for dogs to keep ‘em from barking,, and he’s like. “Haha. That was weird. Fuck this mirror” AND THROWS IT OUT THE WINDOW AND THEN LEAVES AND ALL JONATHAN CAN SAY IN RESPONSE IS “well this is very annoying. How am I supposed to shave now?” ITS THE BEST SCENE IN LITERARY HISTORY WHAT A FREAKSHOW

It’s worth noting that while Stoker definitely drew upon sources purporting to describe vampire folklore in establishing rules for his own vampires, some of the vampire “lore” you see in play in Dracula is original to him. The mirror thing doesn’t seem to have been around before Stoker. While there are regional superstitions one can track down about needing to cover mirrors in the home of the recently dead to prevent their corpse from turning vampiric, the idea that vampires cast no reflection appears to really have had its start with this novel. What’s more, it was only part of what was planned in Stoker’s notes on vampiric irreproducibility. While it never made it into the final text, Stoker wrote down vampires also wouldn’t show up in photographs (which is might be related to Jonathan conveniently mentioning his kodak camera) and that even attempting to paint a vampire would fail. Apparently painting a vampire was just supposed to end up looking like somebody else. Photographs would either come out black or show a skeleton or corpse.
