You are not responsible for other people and their emotions. You’re allowed to break up with people if you don’t want to be with them. You’re allowed to terminate relationships of any kind when you feel they are no longer affecting you in a positive way. You’re allowed to change your mind. You’re allowed to love someone, but still decide you don’t want to be with them. You’re not responsible for the other person’s reaction, it is their responsibility to heal and not yours. If they try to verbally attack you and/or manipulate you into feeling sorry for them, remember not to let their pain add to your own pain. Being left is never easy, but neither is staying in an unfulfilling relationship and being unhappy just to spare the other person. You’re not the bad guy for leaving someone. Stop feeling guilty for making decisions that affect your wellbeing. Your wellbeing should always be your number one priority.

Written for @elgcrnan because they were having a hard time, and I AM A GOOD SON. Sorry this is so late Aeron, I am sending hugs to you.

In which I really prove I have a small weakness for Father Figure characters. An AU where Calliope is a smol and tagged along with her elder brother to the Conclave, only to lose him in the blast. (SORRY IT’S SO SHORT)

Rion belongs to Aeron!

____________________

It started during Haven, she was always peaking out around Josephine’s skirts, staring up at the warden with wide blue eyes and a curious frown. No more than ten years old they all had wagered. Poor child had lost her big brother, Elessar, in the initial blast at the Conclave. To see another Dalish elf was oddly shocking to her as she watched Rion go from the Chantry each day.

Finally he had managed to ask her name.

“Calliope”, she murmured sheepishly, the word half muffled by Josephine’s skirt.

“That’s a very good name. Do you know what my name is?”

“Rion… Severan?” there was just a bit of a stutter from her on his last name, in turn making Josie giggle a bit.

“Very good, da'len!”

Both adults swore up and down that her smile could outshine the very sun itself, she was so proud. _______________

Since that little conversation Calliope would follow the Herald around as she would the advisors, laughing whenever he found her trailing after him; more than once his name would be happily screeched into the winter air. Even now at Skyhold she had been known to pop up in the oddest of places with Rion, when she wasn’t with Cole of course.

To top it all off she had accidentally called him “Ba” or “Babae”, more than once.

Her clan had been contacted but there was sadly no one left to claim the poor girl, a mercenary group had destroyed them all. It was up to the Inquisition to raise a ten year old dalish elf, who also happened to be a rambunctious mage. Most had thought that once the novelty of being with the Inquisitor wore off that the child would gravitate towards Solas, but she never strayed from Rions side if she could. Not that it seemed to bother him.

The Orlesian courtiers had begun to spread rumors that they had seen the Inquisitor carrying her late one night, the girl safely tucked into his arms as if she truly was his daughter. Perhaps he did have a softer side that no one had seen quite yet. Although he /had/ let her do training sessions while on the Iron Bulls shoulders, and had let her ride a dracolisk, much to Master Dennets horror. But Calliope never seemed worse for wear.

Some believed that it was reckless to let a child be part of such a thing, while others hushed them and told them to look closely. For every time Rion went about adventuring there was a moment where Calliope would not seem to let go, and the Inquisitor would smooth her moonlight hair, murmuring in elven.

No one rose a fuss once they learned there would be no better substitute for a parent than the Inquisition and it’s leader.
