The three leads in Fallout all kind of suck and it's wonderful.

The Ghoul is a sad old man trying to reclaim a sense of righteousness that was never very justified. In flashbacks we meet two of his friends: an amoral sex pest and a man to whom he spends half the conversation being casually racist and the rest dismissive. He wasn't a monster, just...mediocre. Well-intentioned, ignorant, and unwilling to stomach discomfort to learn better. Now he justifies his failures and petty cruelties by telling himself that everyone else is just as bad, that nobody really believes in their principles. That's not to say he's never right...just not nearly as often as he needs to believe.

Maximus is the most hopeless, cursed failboy I've ever seen. He's good at shooting and nothing else. He can't read a room to literally save his life. He's selfish, impulsive, panicky and vindictive. He regularly puts himself and others in serious danger with his terrible decisions. He's doing his best. His best is awful.

Lucy is fine at a surface level. She's well-educated, well-adjusted, competent, and genuinely compassionate. She's also in-fucking-sufferable. She arrogantly assumes her vault knowledge is superior and quite rightly spends her first week in the wasteland getting the absolute shit kicked out of her.

I fucking love these assholes. Their flaws are understandable and relatable, a natural result of their histories. I wouldn't blame any of them for being like that. Buuuut it's still satisfying and hilarious to watch their stupid decisions blow up in their faces. Perfect combination of schadenfreude and Big Mood.

I can't believe the Fallout TV show is choosing a canon ending for Fallout New Vegas, like Fallout 2 did for Fallout 1, or like Fallout New Vegas did for Fallout 2, or Fallout 4 did for Fallout 3.

Back in the days of my fallout obsession, I used to read so many fanfics that implied the brotherhood were never taught sex-ed, how the body works, etc.

Turns out that's cannon 🤸
