Let’s talk about the legendary Nina Simone & British actress Michaela Coel

I’m really against Black Brits playing African Americans but ill only accept this because Michaela looks so much like her

@xmagnet-o I’ll be honest at the time I made this post (2-3 years ago) I was quite naive to the whole hollywood-preference-for-non-american-Black-people-to-play-Black-americans and I was defo purely going off the fact that the legendary Nina Simone and this fledgling talent have a remarkable resemblance but I hear, respect and receive what you are saying…..I would love to see a Nina Simone Biopic that not only has ethnically appropriate casting but also production.

for whatever reason…this post is making circles again and getting really supportive notes but the version of the post going round isn’t the final form (SEE LAST COMMENT ABOVE) and I don’t want to get warped in to diaspora wars or anti-black-americaness…on a post that is simply about 2 Black people that I adore (Nina more so OF COURSE, she saved my life)…who happen to have an undeniable resemblance ….I know this message isn’t going to reach everyone but please…if you are going to reblog….please reblog the version above.

I also really want to thank @xmagnet-o (they are literally one of my fave people on tumblr) thank you for challenging me on this post and in the process elevating my frame of mind, thank you…it’s not your job to make me a better person but I am better and more aware because of you…thank you)
