I just came across this thing again. It was a freebie in a photographers book of strange vaguely erotic body-and-beach photographs I found in an art-bookstore in Athens' anarchist district.

It was a queer punk zine from the 80's talking about boys becoming girls and getting on motorcycles with boys, dealing with army enlistments, going out dancing, getting lipstick on everything, being young and foolish, as well as building community, welcoming in the other, the discarded, the unwanted.

it was called "κοντροσολ στο χαος" a phrase which, the author informs us, was used to mean a kiss on the mouth in this underground scene. I don't know what κοντροσολ means. It's a made up word particular to that scene. It sounds like control, like sun, and like going against everything, a general rebellion which may or may not have any larger purpose. χαος means chaos, which feels appropriate.

When you love someone, anyone, but especially a queer person, a traumatized person, someone with problems, mysterious unfulfilled desires, questions, gaps, a person living in this world of ambiguous uncertainty which we share with all of society's losers and castaways, you are loving a disaster, a black hole. You are loving the physical embodiment of some priomordial god of destruction, chaos itself all tied up in a pretty bundle with a bunch of beautiful ideals, a feeling for the flowers, and a pair of shining eyes.

It was incredibly affirming, life-giving to me to find this zine, and in so doing, to find tangible evidence, that artists, queers, freaks and wonders like me have been being birthed on greek soil since forever. I knew, the evidence is plentiful, but still, it's so easy for one to feel alone.

reading more, going deeper, I find that κοντροσολ refers to a movement, to a gathering place, to a community. I've never yet been part of a scene, not really, but in all my wandering and wondering about everything, nothing has such a magnetic attraction, causing me to make it up and write about it, causing me to gaze in delight and wonder if maybe maybe I could be seen as I truly am, as the world of trans witches, drag artists, death-loving chaos-kissers, those who embrace being on a floating rock flying through space, deny the blinders of "one right way to live" and hold on tightly to each other, knowing love, art, togetherness, the divine experiment and the instant recognition of it all is exactly what we are all here for.

If have anything on Nanowrimo you need to get off the site, take it now. The site will likely not be around for too much longer.

Despite everything that the organisation has been through, the closure of a 25 year old nonprofit is still a tragedy, and my heart goes out to everyone that’s grieving from this. Nano has hurt a lot of people, but it meant a lot to so many, and I will be sorry to see that go.

Even if I don’t agree with many things in the recent video, I can agree with the sentiment of one slide.

I will update you all if and when relevant information comes out. Despite everything, I now doubt that this will be my last post.

Seeing as I was never an expert on Nanowrimo I haven't much to say other than "AI killed them" rings untrue. The reason they promoted AI would be the same reason Tumblr and other sites did: they were bleeding funds and AI companies are offering bundles of free money.

Honestly, I think what killed them was getting rid of the forums, a huge draw for most users and the main reason why individuals donated. Also, the accusations of funding mismanagement among the board members were probably a way bigger problem than it seemed.

The AI companies were flush with cash they certainly don't have now. It was an albatross keeping the focus away from the holes in the ship, but it also chased away pretty much anyone still sticking around. A good lesson, at least, to beware of organizations and companies suddenly touting AI as a quick fix.

You have got to be FUCKING kidding me!! Holyshit bro... these motherfuckers are too comfortable with price increases...
