You have been kidnapped by an entity above your comprehension, only to find out that you are effectively a rescue animal saved from a very serious disease. Due to how good it all looks, you decide to do everything in your power to be "adopted" into your new forever home.

So I was talking to my boyfriend

We were talking about fandom stuff, and I came across a post about coffee shop aus. Which he already knew about.

Then he suggested a new variation: an AU where everyone is a sentient coffee shop.

After I spent a good 5 minutes laughing really hard, he suggested that you wouldn’t tell readers upfront, you’d just call it a Coffee Shop AU. And let them find out when they read it.

I cannot stop laughing. Please send help.

Consider this a prompt, folks. And when you post your fanworks to AO3 (go here if you don’t have an account yet), make sure to tag them with “I Blame Tumblr” or one of its many synonyms.

I just found this while looking for another old post about coffee shop AUs, and I am giggling all over again.

the thing about disability is it really does sometimes boil down to "wow i wish i could do that" and then you can't. and it sucks.

accomodations are important but i think they miss the point of this post. sometimes you can't do it. at all. someone needs to do it for you or it will never happen.

"and then you force yourself anyway" folks im starting to think some of you really do not understand what it means to not be able to do things.

[Image Description: tumblr tags from user @livingadagio . They read as follows.

"#the "yeah you're right but I just don't have a choice in order to survive/afford to live/not be homeless so I hurt myself doing it anyway"

#y'all are also missing the point and not understanding

#sometimes even when disabled people have no choice... we still can not do it

#I'm sorry you have to self harm by pushing yourself past your limits because you have to in order to not get by

#but I need y'all to understand that as bad as that is for you that there are people who can NOT do that at all

#and so they end up homeless or starving or unable to do basic care tasks for themselves or they straight up die

#that is a reality of disability that needs to be seen and acknowledged and discussed more

#because until that discussion is had and those limits are TRULY ACCEPTED as being real and not something that can be overcome

#until those people who CAN NOT are cared for and provided for and get the assistance they need FROM OTHERS who CAN

#then we will all still suffer from ableism and fail to achieve disability justice

#the idea that everyone can push past their limits - even at a cost to themselves- if they really have to in order to survive

#is a key part of the systemic ableism that keeps disabled people oppressed and suffering and blames us for not trying harder

#that is the core ableist belief behind treating disabled people as lazy fakers who abuse assistance instead of as... y'know... DISABLED

#sometimes no matter how much you don't have a choice and have to get something done or want to push past your limits to do a thing

#you just literally can NOT in ANY way do the damn thing

#even if that is not YOUR reality (currently) that is reality for some of us

#y'all have got to stop with the "well with accommodations" and "I force myself" derailing whatever point is being made

#not everyone can force themselves and not everything can be accommodated

#sometimes we just can't do it and someone else has to do it

#accept that ugly reality instead of running from the point anytime it is made because you're afraid of ever becoming that disabled pls"

I'm only saying this for your sake, but objectively, it's not a smart idea to bring politics into normal hobbies. You might lose supporters of your blog just because of your political stance, and that would be terrible since you're so amazing!! It's only a suggestion, but I really reccomend not bringing politics into anything.

I spotted a reply to one of my posts:

And my knee-jerk response was "no, you should hear my friends talk about their lives--"

And it made me remember something.

Back in high school, my IB class did a lock-in-- where the group of students gets locked into one part of the school overnight on a weekend-- and after junk food and video games lost their appeal, we got to talking.

Only I didn't really know anything about almost any of them. They were all friendly enough, but I kept to myself for the most part, so we didn't have much to talk about once standard small talk ran out.

So I asked one of the other people sitting with me: "what's your story?"

Your life story.

And he told me. Sixteen years or so condensed into maybe a half hour. And it was the most fascinating life I could have imagined: the places he'd been, the things he'd done, the experiences that defined him. It boggled my mind.

When he finished and turned the question around to me, I thought mine sounded really boring in comparison, but he listened open-mouthed to the entire thing. Other kids were gathering around us by now, listening in. And when I finished mine, I turned to another one of them and asked the question to them.

And just like before, my mind was blown. A completely different life, completely different focal points, defining experiences, goals the likes of which were deserving of an anime. And the same happened with the next person we asked, and the next.

By the time each one of us had finished telling their story, it was time to go home for the morning. The video games had been abandoned hours ago. None of us had slept. We were too caught up in each other's lives.

All of which is to say:

Thank you. I do lead a very interesting life.

So do you.

I'm just curious about how many you have loaded up. Doesn't matter if you made them yourself or got them from someone else. Doesn't matter if they're half-complete or kind of broken. Doesn't matter if you actually use them. I'm just wondering how many site skins people tend to keep around at any given time.

I love getting comments on really old fics. It's like a little tap on the shoulder that says, "hey the art you create is going to last forever even if you don't think it matters anymore"

Peacock taking off in slowmo

(via)

I’d like you to take note of the fact that this bird is ‘taking off’ with practically zero horizontal motion. Their legs are incredibly powerful, because they are game birds and game birds do not really “take off.” Game birds flush. They are capable of springing straight up into the air a very good distance to avoid predation. While peafowl may not have much in the way of predators (as adults, mainly tigers in their home ranges, and mostly snakes as babies), the predators they do have are very fast and tigers, at least, know how to jump quite high, meaning that despite their size (10-12lbs as adults, which is a LOT of bird), peafowl have retained their ability to flush nearly vertical to get into flight.

If peacocks were red I would say they’re the source of phoenix stories, because that tail in flight looks like green flame. He looks like a comet with wings.

@eisenvulcanstein someone sent me this photo a while back, and I need you to know that when peacocks first grow in their train every fall, the structure iridescence is high-red and can result in… Well.

This boy has got a lot of orange because he’s wet but often fall-fresh peafowl iridesce red. As their feather structure changes from wear and tear, they quickly become green trained again. But I can definitely see some kind of mythology springing up around these lads and their fancy butts.
