what he says: I'm fine
what he means: Honestly the idea of men not being able to have emotions other than anger is really upsetting and an issue that needs to be addressed in our society. The hyper masculinity in our society that we teach to male children starting right as they are able to speak is an issue, we should be teaching kids that feelings are okay and that they should be able to express themselves in a healthy manner instead of bottling it up because "crying isn't manly"

Here’s some advice. A good way to prove that you are not a sexist is not to whine, LOOK HOW MUCH I DO FOR YOU WOMEN AND YOU DON’T EVEN APPRECIATE IT. It’s understanding that being part of the problem of the incessant sexism that we women deal with every goddamn day of our lives — in our jobs, in our quest to maintain our right to reproductive autonomy, in our desire to just walk down the street in peace — isn’t just “going around” saying out loud that men are superior. So, you know, sorry if we don’t seem sufficiently grateful, dudes. And I’m going go out a limb and say that a whole lot of us who call ourselves feminists really don’t “need” a villain. We already have plenty! You think we wake up in the morning looking around for stuff to be pissed off about? Ted Cruz is running for president. We have enough to keep ourselves occupied a while here. But here’s the even bigger truth: We don’t want to make anybody “not male.” Many, many of us — gay, straight, everywhere in between — like men. We want to like men. We work with them and live with them and raise children — including male children! — with them and count them as our friends and allies. That’s how we know when they’re speaking and acting in ways that are legitimately appropriate, and not condescending and crappy. So when we say that you’re not doing that, try believing us. Try not curling up in a ball and playing the boo hoo hoo I can’t please you people card. Sure you can. You just have to show us you even want to.

10 Queer Mother’s Day Books for Kids

For those of us who are celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend, here are ten books featuring kids and their queer moms! All of these books feature moms who have a wife, partner, or girlfriend - I would love to see children’s books with even more family structures. Books with trans moms are harder to find, too - if you have any to recommend, please drop suggestions in the ask box!

What: It is with unbridled joy that we announce our intention to host Gainesville’s first Transfeminine Appreciation Event at the South Main Arts courtyard. Why: This is a gathering to celebrate the tremendous work which trans women and extrabinary transfeminine identified people have done for our many communities in the past and the work which our trans sisters/ CAMAB siblings continue to do every day. We celebrate the lives of these trans women and extrabinary transfeminine identified people, recognize the strength and determination required to navigate the transmisogyny which is casually ingrained into our culture, and commit to work toward their liberation. This will be a Barbecue Potluck, featuring maduros, baby-back ribs, and more! Who: Do you identify as a transfeminine person?      Come let us celebrate your joys and share in your struggles? Are you a cisgender or CAFAB person?      Come celebrate transfeminine people with us! If you can, bring food or contributions to Wild Iris’s free store. Come ready to offer support and have a great time.

I don’t worry anymore about writing. There are times that I go through dry periods. I never go through a block. I’m always writing, but there are times where I’m just not on my game, and I’ll use that time to read some new poets, go see some art, walk down to the river and just stare at it, or have a conversation with my sister, or whatever—do whatever it is that I do in my life, hoping that I’ll get filled up enough. And something will happen, some juggling will happen and boom.

In honor of Black History Month, We Need Diverse Books hosted its February chat with four award-winning African-American children’s & young adult authors: Brandy Colbert, G. Neri, Jason Reynolds and Renee Watson. Here’s a transcript of most of the chat (minus some RTs and other OT posts).

Here’s the Storify of our first WNDB chat of 2015! Thanks to Sandie Chen for putting this together.

Another life lost due to police brutality. Her name was Jessie Hernandez. She was 16. Brown. Queer. Loved. She was fatally shot by police in Denver this morning.

“A neighbor captured a video of the female suspect being searched by police after she was shot. In the video, the teen is handcuffed and rolled on her stomach and back on the ground, appearing to be searched. The girl is limp, silent and motionless as officers move her about.”

I don’t care what she was a suspect of, this is disgusting. Officers couldn’t take a petite teen girl into custody? Right. She was just a child. My thoughts are with her family.
