After several years of hard work, we are happy to present you Krita 5.0!

This is a huge release, with a lot of new features and improvements. Some highlights:

  • The way Krita handles things like brushes, gradients and palettes, as well as tagging, has been completely revamped. The new system is much faster, uses much less memory and is much more dependable!
  • Gradients have been improved: they are far smoother and can handle wider gamuts.
  • The smudge brush engine has been completely rewritten, and we’ve got a new brush engine, based on MyPaint
  • The Animation system has been overhauled, with both user interface improvements and new features, such as clone frames and animated transform masks
  • Krita now has a built-in storyboard editor!
  • There’s a recorder to create a video out of your painting sessions
  • And much much more!

We hope you enjoy this release!

I am closing the askbox, because I do not have the time to maintain it anymore.

I recommend going to krita-artists.org in the future if you have troubles, because then there’s other users who can help.

Hi! Recently when I click "Save as" or "Save" the window that pops up isn't the windows default save window (where the Quick Access and Recent folders dropdown can be shown, which I heavily rely on), but Krita's own Save as window in the selected theme. Is there a way to revert back to the Windows' default Save window?

Settings->configure Krita->miscelaneous->use native save dialogs.

Krita is refusing to uninstall from my surface tablet/pc :( i have been trying to do everything i can, but it simply says ' this program cannot run on your pc ' everytime i attempt to uninstall.

I am afraid I have no idea what is going on here, and I would recommend not using the deinstaller, but directly going to the installed programs list in the windows settings and deinstalling from there.

Whenever I attempt to render an animation, it shows in the corner "Failed to Render Animation!" I'm using v. 4.2.2 of ffmpeg, static, and for windows 10. In the profile, it's baseline. I'm new to Krita's animation, but I worked really hard on the animation, and I would rather not lose it all. Could you help?

It’s best to export a PNG sequence, and then try to load that into something like windows movie maker.

How to print a drawing from krita

Right now not possible within Krita itself (because we can’t get it to work reliably on all platforms). You are best off exporting a jpg or png and then using the image viewer of your operating system to print it.

My timeline isn't showing up i clicked animation and i clicked on dockers to make sure its present but it just isn't showing up i even tried deleting and reinstalling

Probably the dockers are going outside the window. Try removing some of the dockers you don’t need and then unmaximize and maximize the window again. If that doesn’t help, I recommend making a post on krita-artists.org with a screenshot so we can figure out how to solve this.

Hello! I was working on an animation, and after drawing in the lines and coloring them in another layer, I inserted a bunch of other new frames in the line layer(for effects) and to match with the audio. When I later played the animation, I noticed that the line and color layer wouldn't be in sync. Do you know a way to fix this(other than inserting more color frame holds)? For example, maybe a way to lock in a specific line frame with a specific color frame? Thank you!! :D

You need to add in extra timing on both line and color layer. There’s no way to sync them.

Hey there, I have a problem wherein I have low quality at 33% or at normal zoom size but when I zoom in around 100%, it becomes high quality again. Is there anything I could do so I can draw more in high quality?

Try changing the filter mode in settings->configure Krita->Display. The preferred filter mode is of course, ‘high quality’, but not all graphics cards can give that. So you’ll need to experiment with what is best.

My lines are smooth when zoomed out, but when I zoom in the lines are blurry and pixelated.

Yes, that’s normal? This is a raster painting program, the pixels are the raster you are painting on. If you want infinite smoothness you will need to use a vector editing program. Vector graphics, opossed to raster graphics, are not as great for painting, as mixing and shifting colors is a lot more tricky and generally not what vectors are good for.
