Guess who its first victim is? Who else, but poor Emma Swan, who was so distracted by her bear claw, she didn’t notice the strange man with a shrink ray until it was too late, and she was turned less than an inch tall, forced to battle against a horde of creepy crawlies now bigger than her.

It’s quite a Hero’s Journey to reach Regina, who is certainly less than sympathetic and all too eager to tease Emma about her bad luck with the latest villain in town.

-

Or: It’s just another day, another magical villain causing havoc in Storybrooke.

🎧 podfic: flying feels like falling (when i close my eyes) by Caisin { narrated by The Homeless Homebody; art by Mippippippi }

After a week with her mother, all Regina wants is a quiet plane ride home. She certainly hadn’t planned on her son recognizing the woman across the aisle as one of his favorite athletes of all time. Emma Swan has long believed that being on two professional soccer teams is all the family that she will ever need. With a number of championships already under her belt and years remaining in her busy, fulfilling career, she hasn’t felt anything missing from her life since she left her last foster home over a decade ago. She never imagined that sitting next to a young fan and his fascinating mother could drastically alter her ideas of what a family can be. But surely a day of traveling together isn’t enough time to begin to fall in love?

She can’t move, she can’t see, she can’t feel and she can’t hear.

Where am I?

She feels a forceful oppression, pressing her down, draining her of her energy and she’s powerless to stop it.

How did I get here?

The question of here is relative, she’s not even sure where here is.

What happened?

There must be some reason for being stuck here but her memory is fuzzy, like all her thoughts are being sifted through a filter.

Who am I?

She’s not sure if she actually exists or she suddenly became sentient in the darkness.

She hears a voice reverberating in the distance, it’s distorted and quiet but she hears it all the same. It breaks the monotony of the silence. Someone’s coming for her, they will get her out.

She’s just not sure she wants them to as the price might be too great.

”For many years we, the indigenous leaders and peoples of the Amazon, have been warning you, our brothers who have brought so much damage to our forests. What you are doing will change the whole world and will destroy our home – and it will destroy your home too.
We have set aside our divided history to come together. Only a generation ago, many of our tribes were fighting each other, but now we are together, fighting together against our common enemy. And that common enemy is you, the non-indigenous peoples who have invaded our lands and are now burning even those small parts of the forests where we live that you have left for us. President Bolsonaro of Brazil is encouraging the farm owners near our lands to clear the forest – and he is not doing anything to prevent them from invading our territory.
We call on you to stop what you are doing, to stop the destruction, to stop your attack on the spirits of the Earth. When you cut down the trees you assault the spirits of our ancestors. When you dig for minerals you impale the heart of the Earth. And when you pour poisons on the land and into the rivers – chemicals from agriculture and mercury from gold mines – you weaken the spirits, the plants, the animals and the land itself. When you weaken the land like that, it starts to die. If the land dies, if our Earth dies, then none of us will be able to live, and we too will all die.
Why do you do this? You say it is for development – but what kind of development takes away the richness of the forest and replaces it with just one kind of plant or one kind of animal? Where the spirits once gave us everything we needed for a happy life – all of our food, our houses, our medicines – now there is only soya or cattle. Who is this development for? Only a few people live on the farm lands; they cannot support many people and they are barren.
So why do you do this? We can see that it is so that some of you can get a great deal of money. In the Kayapó language we call your money piu caprim, “sad leaves”, because it is a dead and useless thing, and it brings only harm and sadness.
When your money comes into our communities it often causes big problems, driving our people apart. And we can see that it does the same thing in your cities, where what you call rich people live isolated from everyone else, afraid that other people will come to take their piu caprim away from them. Meanwhile other people starve or live in misery because they don’t have enough money to get food for themselves and their children.
But those rich people will die, as we all will die. And when their spirits are separated from their bodies their spirits will be sad and they will suffer, because while they are alive they have made so many other people suffer instead of helping them, instead of making sure that everyone else has enough to eat before they feed themselves, which is our way, the way of the Kayapó, the way of indigenous people.
You have to change the way you live because you are lost, you have lost your way. Where you are going is only the way of destruction and of death. To live you must respect the world, the trees, the plants, the animals, the rivers and even the very earth itself. Because all of these things have spirits, all of these things are spirits, and without the spirits the Earth will die, the rain will stop and the food plants will wither and die too.
We all breathe this one air, we all drink the same water. We live on this one planet. We need to protect the Earth. If we don’t, the big winds will come and destroy the forest.
Then you will feel the fear that we feel.”

- Raoni Metuktire, environmentalist and chief of the indigenous Brazilian Kayapó people

SQ Supernova III: Artist Interview with @Alec-Awesome

Interview with @Alec-Awesome and their work for The Princess and The Knight

What is your favorite medium to work with? I like sculpting best When you are choosing a story do you base your choice on the snippet/summary alone or are you looking for a certain type of story? I wasn’t looking for a certain type of story I just really enjoy reading and like bringing certain scenes of what I read to life Which part of the creative process you enjoy the most? The part where I can actually get something down on the paper What was the most challenging thing you faced while doing this particular art? Staying consistent and sticking to one idea. My mind kept wondering towards different art styles and I would catch my self then have to completely redo whatever part I was working on at the time What would like to share about your art that you think the viewers might have missed? I think people interpreted the art work pretty well they where even messaging me things I hadn’t thought of myself when making it Which do you find more difficult doing art for an AU story or Canon one and why? Making sure you get the message across and having it be understandable. When making the board I would pause and wonder if people seeing it would understand or if it went with the story well enough When do you feel your art is complete? When I step back and see that’s things aren’t a complete mess Tell us something about yourself (e.g. something new something old something nobody knows :D ) ? Some people may already know this but I love reading and I am actually trying my hand at writing aswellReplyForward

SQ Supernova III: Artist Interview with Tinylesbrarian

Interview with @ tinylesbrarian and their work for GuardianQueen

What is your favorite medium to work with? I am generally a traditional artist, so I'm most experienced (and comfortable) using pen and ink, colored pencil, brush markers (for lettering), and watercolor. My favorite lettering markers are Tombow dual tip brush markers, but I've tried others as well. I also have some Copic markers (for illustration) that I haven't fully tried yet. I've recently started flexing my digital illustration muscles (using Procreate on an iPad), and am excited to continue to learn that medium as well! When you are choosing a story do you base your choice on the snippet/summary alone or are you looking for a certain type of story? I'm not big into high fantasy AUs, so I suppose I'm looking in that case for creating something for a story I myself would choose to read for fun. In my case, that's usually "real world" AUs (in any time period), canon-compliant or canon-adjacent stories, usually set in Storybrooke/"our world" as opposed to in the EF, etc. Which part of the creative process you enjoy the most? When the initial sketches finally start to look like something; sometimes this happens when I've started adding color to pencil/pen and ink, sometimes it's earlier! Taking an idea from my mind and having it finally *look* the way I want it to look, there's a feeling of pride, like, okay, I'm not an imposter, maybe I'm actually okay at this thing, haha. Also, having small completed bits to show the author I'm working with is SO fun, because I love working together and cheering each other on and validating each other's work. What was the most challenging thing you faced while doing this particular art? Time constraints! I am such a procrastinator,

SQ Supernova III: Artist Interview with  Miss Conduct

Interview with  @Miss_Conduct and their work for The Darkest Hour Before Dawn

What is your favorite medium to work with? I make manips, so I use high quality images and a variety of apps... I make them on my mobile devices. When you are choosing a story do you base your choice on the snippet/summary alone or are you looking for a certain type of story? If the synopsis intrigues me, that influences my choice. Which part of the creative process you enjoy the most? Putting the image together seeing the result and that all the images used worked well. What was the most challenging thing you faced while doing this particular art? Finding the right images to work with the bases. Which do you find more difficult doing art for an AU story or Canon one and why? I don't find either difficult, though I love au stories because the possibilities are endless. When do you feel your art is complete? When I look at it and think it looks real and beautiful. Tell us something about yourself (e.g. something new something old something nobody knows :D ) ? I'm working in graphic book cover design now.ReplyForward

SQ Supernova III: Artist Interview with TuuPii

Interview with @tuupii-artz and their work for Thing Called Future

What is your favorite medium to work with? For sketching I prefer pencil and paper, but for clean up I use Clip Studio Paint (and sometimes Photoshop for easier colour correction). When you are choosing a story do you base your choice on the snippet/summary alone or are you looking for a certain type of story? I'm not good with day-to-day kinda motifs. Of course I love romcom like fanfics, but I usually focus on the dialogues or the writing style when I read them. I'm also an animator, so the artsy side of my brain starts working when I read scenes that make me go "!!!!!!cineMATogrApHY!!!!!", and this happens in plot driven stories most of the time. That's why I check summaries for an adventure-y/magic-heavy feel to it. A no-go for me are usually (mundane) AUs. I just don't see the appeal of them? Which part of the creative process you enjoy the most? The colouring! What was the most challenging thing you faced while doing this particular art? Aside from my indecisiveness when it came to choosing an image hosting website (wtf ao3)? Honestly, that took me several hours... Anyways, there were two challenges that came up while actually working on the drawing. - How the fuck am I supposed to draw the swirly darkness thingie while still having a readable pose - animating the glow effect in a not super animation friendly software was a ... bad idea What would like to share about your art that you think the viewers might have missed? Pfshhh. uh. wow. It's been nearly a year since I worked on it. Ah yes. I absolutely decided to draw Regina's hair as it was in the earlier seasons, because I'm a gay and Mayor Mills is sexy af <3 Which do you find more difficult doing art for an AU story or Canon one and why? AU, because most of the times I just don't like them very much. When do you feel your art is complete? When the nitpicking stage starts to make my head eyes hurt. Tell us something about yourself (e.g. something new something old something nobody knows :D ) ? I use the juice of a whole lemon when I'm making a cup of black tea >:D

SQ Supernova III: Artist Interview with Ariestess

Interview with @Ariestess and their work for Rewrite the Stars

What is your favorite medium to work with? I am primarily a fanmixer, but I dabble in Zentangle, watercolor, and bad manps, too. When you are choosing a story do you base your choice on the snippet/summary alone or are you looking for a certain type of story? It's kind of a feeling I get, I suppose. I love to read the snippets/summaries for ideas. I don't really search for any specific type/genre because I like the ideas to flow in my head for music, rather than have a rigid mindset, if that makes any sense. I don't go in thinking "I want to use this kind of music, so I'll only look for things that fit that." Nope, I go in with the idea of "What's going to perk up my interest or my muses' interest" and then go from there. Which part of the creative process you enjoy the most? Honestly? I think it's the part where I start to really pull everything together. Narrowing down the songs, refining the order, getting it to gel in my mind until the muses go quiet because they're pleased. What was the most challenging thing you faced while doing this particular art? I knew I needed to include the song "Rewrite the Stars",
