So the Bly ending is written where Dani is doomed to return to the lake. What would your alternative fanfic ending look like where she (and/or Jaime) overcame this, or Dani didn’t have to die? Is that okay ask?

The universe is vast and sprawling, infinite. Every story has its repercussions, events laid out end to end, a preordained path. Every teller must, as consequence of shaping the tale, admit to one endpoint as its required result. A story is possessed of a beginning, middle, end. 

But, not every end is singular.

#this undoes me#that Jamie just threw on jeans and sneakers and jumped on a plane and tried so hard#so hard to will Dani into taking her too#desperate not to lose not to be alone#because she can’t see in that moment of grief what a gift Dani has given her#Dani who fought so hard and probably would have kept fighting#even as she was whittled away#even as she lost herself to the Lady’s reflection#Dani would have kept fighting forever—but the minute the absolute minute she saw the Lady reaching for Jamie’s throat#she was done. she wasn’t fighting it off anymore. she was fighting for Jamie one last critical time#because love isn’t possession. she loved Jamie so much and so hard that if the only thing left was to preserve her. save her.#of course she would. of course she would do that#when the love of your life tries so hard to save you that it might kill them#when you feel yourself becoming a burden instead of an anchor#you do what you can to lighten the load#you refuse to own them. to destroy them. you refuse to let them drown with you#Peter let it happen—willed it to happen. Viola in all her pain did the same#but not Dani. Dani’s strength in adoration is so complete#that she would never ever break Jamie just for her own sake#and I honestly think that’s why she’s able to leave Bly#why she’s able to keep coming back to Jamie even if Jamie doesn’t know#because a love that strong and pure can’t be defeated by something so paltry as death#because two people so selfless don’t let go of each other. not really.
