Taking Space: a Prologue Taking space is a documentary compendium on how, why, and where individuals carve out and retain autonomous space, with a specific focus on Southern California. The prologue features three spaces in and around the Los Angeles area and the collectives that run them: Hyde Park Half, Bridgetown DIY, and Blood Orange Infoshop. While explaining the logistics of these collectively operated social centers, it sheds light on how the individuals who make up these collectives interact with one another and take up space within their communities.

**SIGNAL BOOST PLEASE! ** D.I.Y. SPACE IN NEED OF HELP!** Bridgetown D.I.Y. is one of the last remaining autonomously operated infoshops and d.i.y. music/arts spaces in southern california. After a spat of local d.i.y. spaces being shut down (Pehrspace, Blood Orange Infoshop and The Dial), our community faces the brink of losing the brick and mortar groundwork of our independent, queer friendly and politically radical network of community spaces. Bridgetown has played host to hundreds of shows, workshops and other events over the three years that it has existed. The space itself is operated by an open collective, of which anybody can join and help to make decisions about how the space is run.

At the moment, the space has fallen into a deficit mostly due to unforeseen circumstances. If we are unable to make up the cost of our rent and bring in new collective members, we fear that the space may be forced out of its home. Please, if you have expendable income, consider donating it to the space so that it can continue operating. Follow this link to donate: http://www.rally.org/bridgetowndiy

this saturday, we’ll be having a bunch of amazing bands at the space, each of them friends of ours playing their own special brand of hardcore. ostraca, formerly known as kilgore trout, just released an album titled deathless on our friends’ labels, middle man records & skeletal lighting records. some collective members think that this album could quite possibly be hardcore’s album of the year and highly reccommend that you check it out, then catch them on their full us tour. this show will start at 730p, with doors opening at 7p, and will cost $5 with a membership and $7 without, hope to see you there!

This is in a few days!
