4 element cakes

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, I was going to study. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. So I baked instead! I have a little confession to make… I’m really fond of Avatar the Last Airbender, and decided to bake a little tribute to this amazing series! I tried to translate the different elements into the cake, so I made the water cake a blueberry mint ice cream, eart chocolate cake topped with avocado mousse, fire a orange and chili chocolate cake and air strawberry cream, all vegan of course. I don’t know if I captured the right spirit of the elements, but I tried, and here is the result!

You might even call me a… Cakebender.

Water cake: Ice cream: Half a batch of blueberry mint ice cream (recipe HERE)   Cake: same cake mixture as the air cake (check recipe below), but add 1 dl (0,4 cups) frozen bluberries and 2 tbsp lemon juice to the batter. Then bake as usual.  Frosting: Half a batch of smooth frosting and cashew frosting , the cashew I mixed with some frozen blueberries to make it blue.  Decorations: Dried prunes (to represent sea prunes)

Follow the directions for the air cake in the bottom of this post, but add the blueberries and lemon juice. Pour into a cake mold, bake at 175 ºC (350 ºF) for about 40 minutes. Let the cake cool down completely, then carefully cut in two. Place the bottom layer back in the cake mold, spoon over the ice cream, put the other layer of cake on top and set in freezer. Decorate with frostings and prunes.

Earth cake:  Cake: same cake mixture as the air cake, but add 3 tbsp cocoa powder and 2 tbsp water to the batter. Bake as usual.   Frosting: Half a batch of smooth frosting on top, chocolate frosting on the sides  Topping: 1 avocado, 1 tbsp coconut oil, 4 tbs agave syrup, mix to a smooth paste in a blender.  Optional: Decoration: Candis sugar (to represente rocks)

Make the cake according to directions for the air cake, but add the cocoa powder and water.  Pour into a cake mold, bake at 175 ºC (350 ºF) for about 40 minutes. Let the cake cool down completely, then carefully cut in two. Fill with chocolate frosting, spoon over smooth frosting on top, pipe chocolate, pipe symbol out of avocado mousse, decorate with sugar pieces.

Fire cake:  Cake: Same as the air cake, but switch the milk and cream with orange juice.  Filling: Chili chocolate ganache (1 dl (0,4 cups) cream, 100 g chopped vegan chocolate flavored with cayenne pepper, I use the brand Plamil) Frosting: Half a batch smooth frostingDecorations: Homemade colorful sugar to represent flames and lightning (link how how to do them HEREFlames: Strawberry marmelade

Make the cake according to directions for the air cake, pour into a mold,  bake at 175 ºC (350 ºF) for about 40 minutes. Let the cake cool down completely. Make the ganache by heating the cream until it’s almost boiling, then add the chocolate. Stir until all the chocolate has melted, let cool down. Fill the cake with the cold ganache, smear the cake with smooth frosting, decorate with sugar decorations and flames out of marmelade. Flameo Hotman!

Air cake:  Cake: 4 dl (1,7 cups) flour, 2 dl (0,4 cups) sugar, 2 tesp baking powder, 2 tbsp no egg-egg replacer, a pinch of salt, 4 tbsp sunflower oil, 1 dl (0,4 cups) vegan cream, 1,75 (0,7 cups) vegan milk  Frosting: Whipped vegan cream (I use Alpro soy cream)  Filling: Strawberry marmelade (to represent lychee nuts)  Air symbols: Cashew frosting

Preheat an oven to  175 ºC (350 ºF)

Sift the flour, baking powder and egg replecer into a bowl. Add the salt, oil, milk and cream, mix to a smooth batter. Pour into a cake mold, bake for about 40 minutes. Let the cake cool down completely, the cut in two and fill with marmelate. Smear over cream and make the air symbols with cashew frosting.

The kitchen is a mess, I’m covered with frosting and I think the oven might be broken, but it was completely worth it! As you can see, I’m not so skilled at piping, but the flavors of these babies are great! I anyone has any other ideas of flavor or design for atla and lok cakes, please, don’t hesitate to send me a message. Or if something is unlcear with any of the recipes or anything, my askbox is always open!

A very sweet fan at YALLWEST gave me these incredibly adorable Korra & Asami charms. Thanks to everyone who came out to the panel and signing, to Leigh Bardugo for making us a part of the event and moderating our panel, and to Gene Yang for making the trip to join us. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Korra fandom, we’re in need of your help!

I know we haven’t posted on here in forever and a half, but we need you and your awesomeness.

I know our show has ended, but our fandom hasn’t.

New York Comic Con is holding a contest in regards to a cover photo contest.

Last year something amazing happened and this blog brought together so many people for an hour. We  got to gush over our fandom, and celebrate cosplay.

It’s a small contest, yes... buuuuuut.

I want to show that this is what NYCC is about.

We all make the con. And I want to keep this fandom alive in any way possible. This is my small contribution.

If you could take a few seconds of your time to vote here, this would be amazing x 547356384. (It’s titled Unforgettable Moments)

At New York Comic Con, I met a a group of cosplayers hanging around the avatarnycc meetup. They were a cosplay troupe better known as Cantaloupe Cosplay

Three weeks after the con, I got the chance to sit with them and get to know them better.

Liann (24), Lolo (24), and B (24), are long time cosplayers with costumes spanning many series, such as the video game series Kingdom Hearts or the anime Free

During our conversation we talked about what cosplay meant to them and their process creating costumes as a cosplay group.

They have a serious passion for cosplay, and are open to talking about their processes on creating props.

And if you're in the NYC area, and want to be a part of the blog in the next couple months, feel free to message me so we can figure something out!

Systems of Government and Economy in Legend of Korra

I should mention this wasn’t my idea but rather an updated version of some other post I saw a while back.

Edit: t1gerlillyYou’re right, Capitalism shouldn’t be put under systems of government so I changed it a bit.

Edit: dakma99 - I added in Ozai thanks to your suggestion. Was originally just a LoK post, but one addition wont hurt.
