“I wasn’t the one all but begging to be shot by the guards for months on end there Bucky.” Buck shakes his head, laughing sharply. His anger was a living thing now and he aches with it “Nah, nah, not me. No, I was the one dragging your crazy ass back from the brink time and time again. Trying to convince those fucking Germans your sorry carcass was of more use alive than dead, trying to keep the men busy and motivated while you fucked about. You're welcome by the way.” He jabs a finger in John's direction, who stares at him taken aback. “So’s I don’t see much of a reason why I should let you come up into my home and cast your judgments around.”

Bucks chest heaves, great gulps of air like he’s once again racing through snow-covered German trees. He can tell he’s shocked John into silence, the other man's eyes darting back and forth. Buck averts his gaze, brushing his hair back from his face. That’s twice now he’s lost himself at the people he cares about. Twice now he’s bitten a hand reached out in kindness.

Gale takes a deep breath to compose himself, tucks the jagged angry edges of himself back to face inwards. “You said you would write.”

listen you don't have to like rap and you don't have to disingenuously pretend to like rap for woke points or whatever. but it is worth exploring wether you don't like rap because the musical sound just doesn't appeal to you or you don't like rap because you've formed some image of it without actually engaging with it. And it's an extremely diverse genre that spans at this point about 45 years, there's gonna be stuff you like and really fuck with.

I just wanted to let you know that you really are a fantastic author you made me cry, mad, understandable, and hopeful in one single chapter.

As someone that has lived similar trauma that Buck did, I was on his side throughout the chapter and kinda hated and was so mad toward Bucky (Buck opening about his dad and Bucky just continuing with his addiction (but at the same time how can you judge him for it?)). Literally these two lines:

“John was not Gale’s father but Gale was the same as he’d always been: foolishly hopeful.”

“He wanted to never want again rather than feel this burning desire for a moment more.”

I wanted Buck to hurt Bucky in a way only he would because I connected with Buck so much and that makes you fantastic.

Anyway, haha sorry for the long speech just wanted to tell you are amazing and that I am waiting for the next chapter with patience

I think when you deal with the nature of addiction you know that....there was no way John was going to suddenly quit like that. Sure maybe he believed it and wanted it but even if you magically took away his emotional dependence on alcohol (and he's upset in this new chapter as we saw in him talking about the grocery store girls) merely on the physical level he has not been without alcohol for years. Im sure even in the stalag they had moonshine. And if not well, being a pow sure would drive someone back to drinking.

I come from a family of alcoholics and while it mostly has either been shielded from me since childhood or it came in the form of high functioning alcoholism that you wouldn't really know until someone says its not normal. I've dated people who would promise to get better and would for a little bit until the next slip up. it's a shitty cycle and Gale isn't so much mad at John for slipping up but at himself for believing past all the evidence he's had in his life to the contrary.

a lot of people say twink bc they want to say faggot. and they don't even necessarily realize. but they do

pro tip, if you're using twink to mean:

- loser

- effeminate in a negative way

- weak

- pathetic

- annoying

you are probably being homophobic and probably just using it as a free pass alternative for gay or faggot. you're not slick it's not okay and you need to think about your words more. you're not immune to doing this if you're queer either I've seen a LOT of people doing this all across the sexuality labels.
