The Frailty of Genius

THE FRAILTY OF GENIUS. Hello! I am bittergreens on ao3. I like to shout a lot. Mostly with excitement. This blog is a testament to my love of all things Johnlock and my obsessive love for that pairing. However, it also entails descriptions of my manic life as a struggling academic, evidence of my love of books and writing, pictures of things that I find interesting and inspiring (green things! sparkly things! old things!), pictures of beautiful women, and basically anything else that is just really gay. If you'd like to help support my writing efforts (fic and otherwise!) so I might finance future nautical fieldtrips, etc etc, there is a donate button here now where you can do so! I so, so appreciate anything you might want to contribute. :)

here's the thing about the fucking tariffs. besides Unfairly Punishing Our FUCKING ALLIES YOU MORON- okay okay. anyway. the other thing

the other thing is that we have no manufacturing here

most of the fabric I buy to make my clothes is made overseas. I would actually love to buy wool from a local, unionized woolen mill! I'd be pleased as punch to do that! it's better for the environment and creates good local jobs that don't have a barrier of entry re: college degrees, which we need more of!

except we don't have any more fucking woolen mills because your billionaire ilk outsourced all of them to avoid union rules, OSHA, and paying minimum wage, when those things became commonplace and/or law. you orange fuckface

"buy American instead!!!" okay FROM FUCKING WHERE. we don't MAKE shit here anymore. and the few remaining local producers have been forced to charge exorbitant prices because they're competing with cheap unethical labor practices from big companies, so most people can't afford to buy local

god it's all so fucking stupid and I have to suffer for other people's idiocy that I actively tried to prevent

That’s the real problem whenever anyone talks about how manufacturing jobs “went away.” No, they were sent away and no one ever talks about taking measures against the bosses and owners and companies who sent them in order to make a few bucks more.

37 people were illegally detained in Bellingham, Washington for the ‘crime’ of speaking Spanish. This is so fucking inhumane and cruel

⬆️ racial unity now is matching funds for the detainees and their families. please help if you can.

it's shameful how long i had to look to find an article covering this story that gives more information besides saying "37 undocumented workers were arrested wednesday." cascadia news and the AP were the only sources i found that include any journalism whatsoever beyond the police report.

Hey, this is local for me. It would mean a lot if you could help out even a little bit.

Bellingham Herald covered it among plenty of others in the region. Here's the Seattle Times.

The Stranger (Seattle based) didn't do a dedicated story on it (yet) but mentioned it twice, here and in the April 3rd daily slog here.

Whatcom News has something sort of about it

Not to mention that lots of local activist groups and individuals and locals are posting about it and talking about it on social media. I'm only really on Instagram and Threads to a much lesser degree. I'm also seeing Bellingham Herald, Cascadia Daily (aka Cascadia News?) on IG posting about the 37 taken.

Also in the same area, Immigration activist and farmworkers union leader Alfredo (Lelo) Juarez Zeferino was taken by ICE in Sedro-Wooley and is being held in Tacoma detention center the last I have heard. Here's a Bellingham Herald piece about it (lots in the area are covering it as well).
