it’s in the way he holds himself outside; well, that’s not right. when he’s in, like, ammunation, he’s fine. when he’s in the video game store miles away from the penthouse, he’s fine. it’s when he’s at the beach, the park, an unknown street. he’s tense, eyes darting back and forth more often than he did on a job, he’s scared. and no one’s noticed until now.
jack shuffles over to him along the sand, the others chattering easily in front of the fire they have going. he’s quiet, withdrawn, huddling into his sweatshirt more than usual, and jack’s concerned. mom mode activated. a hand is lifted to his shoulder, gentle as can be.

Something Caiti learned from spending nights at the penthouse was how rare silence was. Arguing, screeching, scolding, you name it; it always filled the air. So, the fact that it was quiet at the moment was a rarity. And you’d think she’d try to keep that silence in tact. But, you’d be wrong. The woman rolled over, now facing the other. Hopefully she wasn’t asleep already. ❛ Do you like dogs? ❜ She was going somewhere with this, believe it or not.
the question was definitely out of the blue, but not unwelcome. jack rolls over to face caiti, shuffling closer to snuggle up to her.
