Almost Heaven!
My son and I took the King Ranch and drove to West Virginia yesterday to pick up some beef he had ordered.
It was a side of beef…half of a cow.
A friend of his raised some cattle on his farm, grass fed, drug free cattle.
We filled up 4 big coolers with frozen beef for the trip back to NC. We figured that he paid $5/lb for the beef including the butchers fee. Not a bad price really, when was the last time that you bought a T-bone steak for $5/lb?! I bought nothing because I don’t eat beef.
I was raised in WV and raised my kids there and it was nice to go back and revisit our hometown and old neighborhood. Some things have changed but mostly it’s the same place.
We left WV 20 years ago and I was glad to leave and have no desire to go back. My son, however, would go back tomorrow! Unlike me, he is an outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish. Those things never appealed to me.
The highlight for me was spending the day with him and watching him interact with his friends. I see him every week but have never seen him with his friends before. They talked about hunting trips, guns, fishing…
Dude stuff, redneck stuff. I was lost in all of those conversations. They might as well be speaking a foreign language when talking about there different shotguns and ammo. It’s all gobbledygook to me!
Yesterday was a good day.
