Sports Anime Shipping Olympics

@sportsanimeolympics / sportsanimeolympics.tumblr.com

The Sports Anime Shipping Olympics (SASO) is a summer prompt-based shipping challenge for all sports animanga fandoms. Fans form teams around their favorite ships and/or sports fandoms, and compete in prompt-based challenges to show off how awesome their ship/fandom is! Fanworks generated from this event ranges from writing, graphics, audio/voice-overs, cosplay, games/light novels, etc. Imagination is limitless!

We need another mod!

We’re a little short-handed and could use the help of one, possibly two, more mods until the end of the event.

A good mod must:

  • Be 18+
  • Have experience in previous leadership positions, whether online or offline (e.g., clubs, jobs)
  • Have about 4-5 hours of free time a week to help out (sometimes it’s more, often it’s less)
  • Stay calm and friendly under fire

Additionally, a good mod will be comfortable using:

  1. Dreamwidth (this includes HTML coding; we do not use the Rich Text Editor)
  2. Google services (spreadsheets, documents, gmail)
  3. Twitter
  4. Tumblr
  5. Additional experience with coding and/or graphic design is AWESOME but not necessary

You’ll be joining an experienced mod team with a plethora of tools and programs to help you out. We’ll show you the ropes and answer any and all questions you have--you won’t be going it alone!

If you’re interested in helping out, please fill out the following form and e-mail it to anime.espn@gmail.com with the subject “Mod Referee Application”.

MR1 Final Voting Open

The final round of voting for main round one is open! Please vote here!

You can vote for three teams -- and just like past rounds, you cannot vote for your own team.

Happy voting!

MAIN ROUND 1 IS NOW CLOSED

We are so, so proud of every team that got something in. You guys worked super hard and created some amazing stuff! Congratulations!

All entries submitted after this point receive participation points, but will be disqualified from the final vote. For more information, see Voting.

We are now in the editing period. Please take the next 48 hours to clean up/tweak/proofread your entries. The editing period ends at the end of the day on July 2, 2015, during which time the mods will go through all the entries to check if they meet SASO standards.

While we don't recommend it, you could start reading entries now if you'd like. However, be aware that they may still be a little rough around the edges. It's better to hold off until July 4, when everything will be polished.

On Bonus Rounds

We hope you’ve enjoyed the bonus rounds so far. The mod referees have noticed some things that we wanted to bring to your attention.

  1. Please prompt for all the fandoms you like! Take a look at all the sports anime fandoms qualified for the Olympics. Besides the big fandoms (Haikyuu, Yowamushi pedal, etc.), there’s also awesome small fandoms (Eyeshield 21, Ookiku Furikabutte, etc.). Even some big ones like Free! aren’t getting much love. Use the bonus rounds to their full advantage and create fills and prompts for all your fandoms and ships!
  2. This is not the Sports Anime Gen Olympics. In the last bonus round especially we saw a lot of prompts that requested “every character on xyz team” or ten characters from across several canons. These prompts aren’t exactly breaking the rules, but they’re definitely toeing the line. The point of the SASO is to create fanwork about relationships in sports anime. Prompts that include a huge cast can also be very difficult to fill, so it’s rude to your fellow shippers. We’re not going to police this, but we do encourage you to try to focus your prompts, stay away from prompting for large groups of characters, and avoid prompts that are closer to gen than shipping.
  3. Please review the bonus round guidelines. We’ve seen a lot of folks who seem confused.

It has been such a delight working on this event so far. You are all fantastic and creative and we love you! <3

One last P.S. - We’ve gotten a lot of questions about the Main Round limits, and updated the main round guidelines accordingly. Please look at them again.
