Earnest Perry, an associate professor in the School of Journalism, addresses the crowd at Monday's Teach-In. Hundreds of Mizzou students, faculty and staff crowded into Ellis Library to hear 11 professors from across disciplines speak about why black lives matter. The panelists gave historical context for recent protests and described the legal and social underpinnings of discrimination. They also issued calls for mentoring black students, communicating the context of black stories and getting involved in the struggle for racial justice at the ground level. Events continue today with "Talking About Mizzou with Friends and Family" from 12:30-2 and "Teaching in Times of Change" from 3:30-5 in Memorial Union. By Erik Potter. Photo by Rob Hill.

On behalf of all, I know that our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the citizens of Paris. We are deeply saddened, shocked and grieved by these abhorrent acts of violence. Paris is the city of lights, but last night the lights went out in Paris. We know that in the absence of light, there is darkness; in the absence of good, there is evil and in the absence of love, there is hate. It has been said it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. We illuminate our Columns every night at Mizzou to dispel darkness, evil and hate. As you walk by the Columns tonight and for the next seven nights, please remember the innocent who have died in Paris. Hank Foley Interim Chancellor Photo by @mikalacomp. (at Mizzou)
