The body positivity plus size community always shy away from talking about health issues and healthy habits in general, I think this is very strange because taking care of your body (inside) is also part of self love. I think many of us associate healthy living with being skinny, and this is where we get it all wrong. I've always said that body positivity (for fat people) does not mean "eat a box of pizza everyday", and I cannot stress this enough, eating disorders affect fat people too. Over eating is a disorder. Under eating is a disorder. Some people are depressed about their bodies, so they comfort themselves by overeating, others are addicted to junk food (we do not discuss this enough in the fat community, junk food is as good as a drug because it can be very very addictive). I also know fat women who want to lose weight but they want to achieve ridiculous results in a short space of time, so they starve themselves...until they're too hungry then they decide "fuck it! Let me go eat a burger and fries and a fizzy drink. I know this, because I've been through this hence this campaign with Woolworths is so close to my heart. The #Startswith campaign has helped me start a journey I've contemplated on starting for so long, out of fear that people would be judgmental towards me (a fat girl) telling others to get up and start with the little things to take better care of their bodies...I think this is a fear many of us have, we think twice before going to the gym because people are gonna think "oh shame, the fat person is now at the gym" and people stare and make it really awkward so many of us don't even bother. But you know what? We cannot live our lives based off of what people are going to say, you have to learn not to let others opinions of you bother you because people will always have something to say. Loving your body means taking care of it. Living a healthy life DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO ASPIRE TO BE SKINNY!!!! A healthy lifestyle is not an easy one, not everyone can handle being on a crazy strict diet, it's very difficult getting rid of bad habits. Join me on this transformation; My balanced, healthy life starts with drinking more water and giving up fizzy drinks and sugar. What does yours start with?
