remember when Mulan risked her life and her family’s honor to save her dad and ended up saving all of China from the Huns but Anna and Elsa are considered Disney’s feminist icons

Remember when Tiana spent hours and hours working hard to save up for her own restaurant to make her dreams a reality without any man in the equation, but Anna and Elsa are the feminist icons?

Remember when Nani tried went from job to job so the social services would get off her back and let her keep her sister. Then when they did come for lilo she negotiated with them and when her sister was kidnapped; She beat up an alien with a branch demanding to be taken to her sister. But you know anna and elsa are the feminist icons?

Remember when Jasmine fought against being forced to marry and asserted her right to be free and seen as her own human being. She boldly uprooted tradition and told both her father and a predatory villain that she belonged to no one but herself. But Anna and Elsa are the feminist icons I guess.

Remember when Kida fought to protect her kingdom? Was the one grabbing the guy and demanding answers?  protected  her dying father and ultimately saved her people? Yet anna and elsa are the feminist icons.

Remember when Esmeralda stood up for a handicapped person in front of the entire city and called them as well as the authority figures out on how they were all treating him? And how she felt an honest need for the justice of the oppressed that she vocalized again and again and was forced into hiding from the law because of it? Not to mention fought like a lion whenever someone went after her? But, you know, Anna and Elsa are feminist icons.

Remember when all of those films came out, five to twenty years ago, and Frozen is now a new fresh film with female protagonists for people to be excited about. And remember how even though Frozen is flawed, so is every single movie named in this post? (Mulan is motivated to fight by her father and gives up a position of power on the emperor’s council for (implied) marriage. Tiana’s moral is to learn to be content with what she has and not aspire for more. Jasmine is sexualized and does the dumb sexy lady distraction trope. Kida literally is turned into a McGuffin Crystal. Also only two of these women are the protagonists of their stories.) Also remember how there’s not ONE way to be a feminist, and we should be excited and supportive of that diversity instead of needlessly pitting female characters against each other? But, you know, we only need one female protagonist and everything else should be populated by white heterosexual cis guys. FEMINISM.
