Six months it had been six months since she had found her way to hilltop.Six months since she had reconnected with her sister. Six months since she had been forced to stay and six months since she had started to slowly heal. Four months since she came face to face with the man she held responsible for killing her daughter.  They had fought but eventually Lilly had opened up and told him she was just as much to blame as he was for their daughter’s death.

It was why she didn’t feel she deserved another chance at being happy. She had wanted better for him and was going to try and leave him with her sister. That didn’t work out and Tara had made her stay. Stay and get better Stay and fight to get herself back. Slowly she was dealing with what happened to her best she could. Max spent most of his time with Tara Maggie and Hershel and that was fine by Lilly they could give him the love he deserved. He deserved better then her for a mother. She had just finished work for the day when she saw Phillip sitting down alone.

Taking a breath she walked over to him. “You know for so long I blamed you.. Hated you.. for Meghan for the lies. I want you to know Max.. I do.. I don’t really matter in the equation.. But I need to know two things. What did you do to Maggie and two can you promise to keep him alive and safe best to your ability.” She knew if he promised to love Max she could let herself care about him again. Maybe she already did deep down she wasn’t even sure what she felt anymore.

The Governor doesn’t look up at first when he hears Lilly’s voice. Instead, he simply listens without acknowledging her, looking almost as if ignoring her, right up until she mentions Maggie, to which he suddenly flinches and turns sharply to look up at her.

After eyeing Lilly for a solemn moment, he then sighs and gestures vaguely with a loose hand to the makeshift log bench matching one he’s seated on just to his right, indicating for Lilly to join him in sitting.

His tongue slips out between his lips to wet them before he sucks in a soft breath through closed teeth, steeling himself in order to recant his morbid past. His elbows come to rest on his knees, hands falling in front of him to become loosely clasped.

My guys caught her and her husband. Woodbury needed information on the Prison. Had one of my men give her man a good once-over, while I... He hesitates, struggling to decide if it’s hard to admit his actions because he either refuses to own up to them or he doesn’t regret them. I tried to strongarm her another way. Had her in a room, told her to undress. She did. Bent her over a table and unbuckled by belt... but I didn’t do anything else than that.

The Governor is certain that detail won’t really win him any points in reducing the harm of his abhorrent behaviour. His whole life he had generally thought of himself as someone who would always be above such despicable tactics, but he had a lot of trouble even keeping track of who he was anymore.

As for Max? Any kid of mine, blood or not, I’d die for, if it meant keepin’ ‘em safe.
